First of all, while I definitely agree that the employees should have done more to help, I don't think it's fair to say they did NOTHING. They both followed protocol and called the command center. MTA is unionized. Had the guy broken a procedural rule, he would not have been fired. I generally support unions, but the fact remains that it is very difficult to fire a unionized employee, especially when they work for municipalities.
