Vanessa is a 29-year old freelance writer, blogger and blog consultant living in New York City. She has been active in the feminist movement for the last decade, working with the Mount Sinai Sexual Assault and Violence Intervention Program, NARAL Pro-Choice America, Girls for Gender Equity, NARAL Pro-Choice New York and the National Institute for Reproductive Health. Vanessa is a graduate of the BA program in Women and Gender Studies at Rutgers University and is a co-founder of The Real Hot 100, a grassroots media project that challenges unrealistic images of women in the media. She also blogs about global gender justice issues at UN Dispatch. Vanessa co-founded Feministing with Jessica and two other friends in April 2004.

- Here is a link to DC police's website describing the "Prostitution Free Zone." The law states that, "it is unlawful for a group of two or more persons to congregate for the purpose of engaging in prostitution or prostitution-related offenses (posted to Carrying condoms could get you arrested. )

- Absolutely profiling. The laws establishing "prostitution free zones" lower the standards of probable cause that police have to meet to search someone.
