It's not "an entire class of people." It's a specific denomination of Christianity who is being actively extolled to go out and prey on people. And from the POV of my relative, it was absolutely an assault. From the POV (posted to The messed-up case for religious discrimination)
If I were applying for a job at an animal research facility, it's entirely appropriate to be asked if I have any relationship to ELF or PETA or any other organizations which actively encourage their members to infiltrate these organizations (posted to The messed-up case for religious discrimination)
