Yesterday was our awesome editor and co-founder Jessica Valenti's birthday.

It's been a big year for Jess, including the publishing of her new book, The Purity Myth, and a little ceremony you might have read about.

Congrats Jess and I hope this year is even better than the last!

Don't hate me because I'm cute.

You know, I almost forgot to do a Monday Monty blog today - but then I got this email that reminded me. It's from someone who sent along a story they wanted Feministing to cover, and who wrote said email in such a way that it compelled me to find a super cute picture of the dog. (And no, I won't link to the story. Yes, I'm spiteful.)

Not that you ever print anything I've sent in the past, though it's usually more relevant than updates on Jessica's dog, I'll send this article by [redacted] along. Cheers

Paging PassiveAggressiveNotes.com! Seriously, though. We get hundreds of post ideas a day and we do our best to write about the ones we think Feministing readers will be interested in. So thanks to all of you who continue to take the time to email us story ideas sans snarky commentary about my poor wee dog.

What's the point of having a dog if you can't occasionally embarrass him by dressing him up in clothes, right? (Actually, he kind of loved wearing this shirt. He walked around in it for a good hour.)

Since we didn't have Monday Monty Blogging yesterday (and due to a couple of readers' requests via Facebook), I thought I'd give a little update on Monty's cousin, Tweet, who I've blogged about before.

She not only has huge feet, but lays on her back all day like a dog so I can scratch her tummy. She also plays fetch; I'm completely convinced she's a dog in a cat's body.

Tweet is also the sweetest cat in the world, so sweet that she wants to lick her brother's face. All day. There's a short video after the jump of her trying to get his face in her grip so she can clean him up, then gives up after much resistance.

For Monty, it doesn't get better than drying off pond-swimming-wetness by rolling around in the grass.

Back by popular demand (you can stop emailing me now!), Monday Monty Blogging. Since it's been a while, I figured it would be fun to post the first ever Monty picture. (Here's Monty now, for those who are meeting him for the first time.)

Hey all, all of the Feministing editors will be in upstate New York through Wednesday for a retreat discussing the future of the site. So as Vanessa wrote on Friday - posting will be extremely limited until we're back on Thursday.

While we're gone, please hang out on the wonderful Community blog which will be updated as usual.

Also, since I've been remiss in my Monday Monty Blogging duties, there's a little present for you after the jump.

This may be our most chaotic Fuck You/Fuck Yeah ever. The gals came over to keep me company (I've been pretty sick) and do some Feministing work, so we did our video panel-styles.

Transcript below the jump.

Okay, you made it through tax day. Everything's going to be okay after all (I hope). For freelancers like me, the estimated tax business just keeps on coming. As soon as I take a sigh of relief, I've got another check to sign straight to the government. Which, honestly, I feel okay about these days. We're in a tough spot, I actually respect and trust the president, and I want things like public education and health care to be prioritized using my hard-earned money.

Here's something I don't feel okay about: as I've been reading the last six months of economic news, I've become discomfiting aware of how scant my economic knowledge is. Truth be told, I never took micro or macro economics, but if I had, my guess is that I would want to take it again. As is, I just want to take it for the first time. I'm feeling grossly unprepared to analyze all of this bubble bursting, bailout, stimulus, IMF, GDP, and what the fuck.

This all came to a head because I was hanging out with Erin Smith who had co-organized the recent Legal Momentum panel (check out Kyla's great post on it) featuring Heather Boushey, Linda Hirshman, Mimi Abramowitz, and Irasema Garza. Apparently our old pal Hirshman made a crack about the fact that she feels like feministing should stop posting pictures of our pets and start covering cold, hard economic news more often.

Monty isn't going anywhere Linda, but you've got a point here. I have made an effort to talk about the economy (as have others on this blog), but I usually feel like I'm trying to speak a language I only went to one semester of classes in. In other words, my economese sucks.

So what am I going to do about it? Read Suzie Orman? Probably not. I don't just want a personal finance guide and her vibe freaks me out. I want to really understand the big picture. Anyone have a book recommendation? I honestly don't want to invest a huge amount of time in this economic education project, but I do want to feel equipped to understand what's going on. Anyone else conquer feeling less than literate on the economic front and have advice for the rest of us?

And for funsies (sorry Linda), check out Kristin Wig's amazing Suzie Orman impression:

We clearly had a fun weekend. How about you?

Andrew and I are watching Monty's brother Banjo for a couple of days while my parents are off on a much-needed vacation. The doggies do everything together. This includes Banjo following Monty into his crate whenever we try to send him there to separate and calm the crazy beasts. Just check out the look of pure bliss on Monty's face.

So, I have not kept up with my Monday Monday blogging and a lot of you have let me know via email that this is unacceptable. Since I've been traveling a lot for Women's History Month I don't have any new pics to show off, so I figure an old sleeping-yoga-dog pic will do. Enjoy!

Monty waits patiently for Andrew to get our morning coffee.

About two months ago, we moved into a house. Like, a grown up one. With frigging multiple bathrooms - unheard of in New York. We seriously lucked out.

Monty loves the new neighborhood - Sunnyside, represent! - more than anyone, and especially loves having a backyard. Also, there are dogs everywhere here; it's ass-sniffing heaven every time we take a walk. For Monty, I mean. Yeah, that's the ticket.

(If anyone out there also lives in Sunnyside, make sure to stop by my parents' health food store - it's the shit.)

After today, there can be no doubt as to my love for Monty. Explanation is after the jump, but I warn you - if you are easily grossed out, are eating, or find simply the idea of a story primarily about poop unsavory, stop reading. Seriously.

So, I'm getting married. To this guy. There, I said it. I've been putting off writing about this for a while now (as somewhat explained by the hilarious someecard that Amanda sent to me above).

Being that most of us here blog about our personal lives quite a bit - from birth control and Spanx to body image and pets - it seems only natural that I would write about getting married. Especially given how political marriage is, especially right now.

But there was something nice about having this be private and not for public blogging, flickring, Facebooking or commenting. (After all, you don't have to be a blogger to have your personal life on display!) And I was feeling all romantical, certainly not like debating and politicizing my relationship decisions. But shit, that's what I kind of signed up for, right? Well...maybe.

I think that blogging about your life as a way to talk about politics can be a powerful tool; it's one I've used often and find effective. It humanizes experiences that are so often talked about as statistics and develops a sense of community that can be powerful when called to action. But political and media strategies aside, I like that when I meet readers in person they feel as if they know me and other editors on the site (and if they're a commenter, I feel as if I know them!). It's a lovely feeling of connectedness and solidarity that's unlike anything else, and I value it deeply.

But I also think that what we - as bloggers, writers or just folks with an online presence - put out into the public sphere should be up to us. I don't want to feel that I must blog about getting married because it relates to the work that I do. I want to be able to have things that are just for me and not be judged poorly because of that. (Whether or not these are realistic wants remains to be seen!)

After thinking about this for a while, I realized that I don't feel like I had to blog about getting married - I wanted to. I wanted to share some good news with a community that I love and am proud to have had a hand in creating.

I'm positive you'll be hearing more from me on the marriage front: Like how to do it while shirking patriarchal tradition? Or why I decided to participate in an institution that still (for the most part) excludes same-sex couples. And I'd love to hear back from you as well - what your experiences are with marriage, not-being-married, etc. I think it could be a great conversation.

But for right now, I'm just going to be glad that I've finally shared this news with all of you, and start to think about subversive wedding favors...or something.

Monty just loves spending time with Tweet. They're besties - even if Tweet bats him around the head every once in a while.

This picture doesn't really do justice to how much Monty is digging the snow in Woodstock. But he doesn't hold still long enough for me to take a good shot - he's too busy hopping through the snow like a frigging deer.

Hope everyone is having a happy Monday...

You would think that it was Monty who was moving furniture and unpacking boxes all weekend! Just looking at this picture makes me wish I was still asleep...

So how was your weekend?

Thanksgiving break was a blast, but Monty was home in NYC with my parents while I was in California...so no new pics. But I figured everyone appreciates a blast-from-the-past puppy picture!

So Monty loves his new cousin Tweet - I mean LOVES her. He goes absolutely nuts every time I bring her over to Jessica's, hence this adorable video of them playing. My favorite part is 0:50 in where Tweet starts batting at him at super speed; kitty don't fuck around.
