Another thought- have you read the book "Why are all the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria?" by Beverly Daniel Tatum? It's an excellent resource for learning about privilege in the classroom and the larger school community. Might not (posted to Privilege in the Classroom)
This is why I think everybody should have to work a service job for a while at some point in their lifecourse. Because apparently just being told that service workers are human beings somehow doesn't get through to people. (posted to I can see how you are seeing me)

I am in high school, I work at a movie theater, and I have begun to detect my own racism when dealing with customers. I automatically assume that non-white customers will be more difficult to communicate with. When I think (posted to I can see how you are seeing me)
