First ever gay male sex scene on daytime television.

You may already know about my guilty pleasure for daytime soap operas, in which case you won't be surprised that I, ahem, stumbled across One Life to Live airing daytime TV's very first gay male sex scene last week.

I normally giggle at the ridiculousness of soap opera scenes o' lovemaking, but I'll admit I was completely engrossed in Oliver and Kyle's special moment.

Awesome. Video via Jezebel.

I had to watch with the sound off since I'm at work, and don't know the characters, but that was just lovely. I haven't been into soap operas since high school, but this was very tastefully done, looks like. They seem like very expressive actors.

My husband, who watches soaps while I'm not that into them, informs me that there's been at least one gay love scene before this one, involving Bianca and her girlfriend. I don't know if there have been others, but this is the first gay male love scene I'm aware of.

Does gay still refer to homosexual women? Or is it shifting to only include homosexual men, like lesbian is only women?

I know many homosexual women who refer to themselves as "gay."

That's funny, while All My Children is my show, I didn't think they ever had a sex scene with Bianca - but after some research, your husband is completely correct! I'll make appropriate edits.

I have loved OLTL for a long time...but recently I haven't watched...I started again, and one of the reasons why is because of this story line...

That was awesome... on several important, and also completely superficial, levels.

One Life to Live also had some controversial gay characters in the early '90s, one of whom was played by Ryan Phillippe.

I've been so impressed with the recent gay story lines. Daytime soaps usually seem to shy away from political issues, but one of the recent story lines dealt with same sex marriage and none of the main characters were opposed to it! Every character supported it! I thought it was pretty progressive for daytime t.v.

My favourite soap is Eastenders (a british soap set in London.)

They've had a gay storyline running for a few months now. Fantastic.

Syed is deeply muslim and doesn't want to 'come out' because of his own belief that it is an abomination. There are family pressures, not to mention the fact that Syed is engaged to Amira. Christian (his lover) is openly gay and accepted in society, but it's interesting to see the limits of that acceptance when he asserts his right to feel love, and to be in love, with a man of a different race and religion.

Can't wait to see how it all plays out.

aww...that was nice to watch.

Dragon Age Origins also has what I'm willing to bet is the first male homosexual sex scene in a major video game. Also, no chain mail bikinis.

That's awesome! But don't forget about Noah and Luke on As the World Turns, who've been um, awesomeing in bed together since last September.

Completely beautiful!!!
Now if we can only have similar archs in mainstream movies and/or prime time!!! It was really well done and tasteful though! *swoon* Sad that I don't watch daytime TV!
