I'm getting one... That and the bird in the cage one. I can really appreciate the metaphor and I like that it's simple enough to explain to anyone.

Ok, I did not get it at first because of the word "justicia" being held up by what looks to be like a white woman. But the shirt is about the wealthy promoting abortion coverage for all women including low-income women, latina for example?

hey folks -

thanks for posting our shirt. to answer the above commenter, this drawing was based on a photograph of the artist at a rally. the artist is an immigrant latina woman.

while i do think that wealthy white women should fight to have their tax dollars pay for abortion access, i also think we should step back for a minute and examine how we define whiteness. skin color? nationality? facial features? when we make assumptions about a person's race are we denying their heritage and history? i feel this is a very important topic for discussion, as many people do not fit neatly in to socially constructed definitions of what is latino, black, white, asian, etc.

We have more shirts in stock, though we are out of certain sizes and colors, which may mean you have to wait a couple weeks till we get another order. please feel free to email if you have questions/comments etc: meansofproductionapparel (at) gmail (dot) com

Does any of the money go toward pro-choice causes?

no, i'm sorry, the money does not go to pro-choice causes. we don't mean to imply that it does. the money break-down is something like this (roughly): $5 for the blank shirts from no sweat, $3 for postage and materials and etsy fees, and everything else ($10) to pay ourselves back for the $1000 plus we've invested in equipment and materials (i think we've just broken even, thank you!!!). but making money through etsy sales makes it possible for us to do very cheap printing for non-profits (which makes it easier for them to support union and worker-owned factories). if any pro-choice causes in nyc want some printing done, we'd be happy to help them out.
thank you so much for all your support, we had no idea the shirt would sell so well!
