''There is a problem with both groups accepting a child from such a marriage,'' Bardwell said in an October interview with The Associated Press. ''I think those children suffer, and I won't help put them through it.''
Maybe they suffer because biracial children and interracial marriages are looked at negatively, and you're part of that prejudice. You're just passing the racism along, Mr. Bardwell.
I like how he said that if he could go back, he'd still reject interracial marriages.
Sad.
the same line is put on kids who are not "conforming" - my son shouldnt wear his pink kitty shirt (which he LOVES) because he might be made fun of. shouldnt other people/parents/kids be taught not to tease?
Also, men's rights groups are gaining ground in reversing laws on domestic violence

I didn't like that article very much; there was a very obvious bias against the men's right groups and over all generalizations. While I wouldn't give a fig to support a batter I am not in agreement with the extreme aspect of that movement, I do, as a feminist, agree with some of the issues. Of course nothing exists in a vacuum and what looks good in print doesn't always work well in reality, like communism.
I may have missed something myself, but isn't that GLAAD media reference guide from 2007?
The cover of the GLAAD media guide is incredibly problematic for me. The word Marriage is HUGE, bigger than ANY OF THE OTHER WORDS. Hate crimes, conversely, is minuscule. Call me old fashioned but I am a little less worried about getting a tax break for being gay then dying for the same reason. The word hate crimes is even separated from the other words on the page. Who approved that cover and what were they thinking???
im sure folks have seen/heard about the shooting at fort hood. the one shooter who was killed was maj. nidal malik hasan (two other potentials are in custody and not being named) so the morning hate against muslims is getting drummed up again (not like it ever went away).
It's an example of a minority's actions being held against all members of that minority group, isn't it? And furthermore, no one's looking at his identity as a man, or as a member of the military, or as a counselor who worked with soldiers who had PTSD from their time in Iraq, they're zeroing in on his religious affiliation.
Something in the Racewire article really did not set well with me. I understand the implications of someone with lighter skin and who can 'pass' winning a beauty contest at a HBCU, but why do we have to illegitimize her experience as a mixed race person of Pacific Islander descent? She should have 'known' better not to compete?
Does her experience with the same system this article is calling out become moot simply because she's not 'authentically' ethnic enough?
The whole set up, from pageant to article, just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
