Virginia pro-choicers call out McDonnell
Remember Robert McDonnell's Master Thesis which contended that working women and feminists are "detrimental" to the family? In efforts to avoid this Republican candidate from governing his anti-women wackness over the state of Virginia, NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia did an awesome video asking folks if this is the kind of governor they'd want.
Working Women for Virginia also have an ad and Facebook campaign against McDonnell. Good stuff.

In all fairness, his obtaining of a wife and daughter have led him to the idea that women in fact CAN work.

Awesome. Even if his beliefs have significantly changed sicne then (as I would hope!). The voters need to be informed about his past history. Anyone who was ever dumb enough to spout such crap doesn't belong n office. I hope the voters in Virginia feel the same way.
Anyone who was ever dumb enough to believe that crap doesn't belong in office. I'm really glad this video exists, to inform the voters of his past insanity.
I recently moved to SW Virginia from Kansas (so I'm no stranger to the politics surrounding abortion, contraception, women's health, etc). The sad thing is that this asshat is LEADING in all the polls I have seen, and by a dismayingly significant margin. Deeds (the Dem candidate) has been unwavering in his support of women's right to choose, but the flap about McDonnell's thesis seems to have done little to make voters think twice about voting for such a virulently anti-choice candidate. There are (pink, of course!) "Women for McDonnell" bumper stickers popping up all over the place. If he gets elected, McDonnell and the other conservative GOPs on his ticket will represent the most anti-choice coalition to come to power in VA in decades.
(And anyone who wants to give McDonnell the benefit of the doubt, that maybe he authored this thesis in a heady fit of youthful idealism. Wrong. He was in his mid-thirties when he penned this gem. Sigh.)
Needless to say, if you've got any spare change lying around, NARAL Virginia could use all the help it could get.
i live in va beach and he went to regent...which is not far from my home and neither is the 700 club. i usually respect other people's views that are opposite of mine....but there is nothing to respect about bob mcdonnell's. i cant do it. he believes that women are mere property. he thinks that women dont deserve to be viewed as our own entity. he thinks that women should have all their decisions made FOR them...but men.
he's a republican, so it's a given that he doesnt believe that women shouldnt have a choice regarding their bodies and future. also, he showed that he is an insecure male by trying to enforce a discrimination law that makes sure women dont get paid as much as men. you know, because working women are detrimental to the family unit. you wanna know what else causes great harm and will ultimately destroy a family? POVERTY.
i suppose he rejects all child care funding because he believes that women should be home to take care of the kids. so i take it hes against baby sitters too? since women should ALWAYS have babies either sewn to her hips or one inside her at all times. that makes perfect sense. you know, since our brain are so tiny and dainty that we cant comprehend any form of equality...and how dare the feminist cunts and their man-brain having terrorism brainwash women into thinking they are actually human; and not a robotic baby(preferably SON) making machines.
oh, the plight of bobby boo.
oh, and i made some typos. forgive me. i was on a feminist rant rage. ;)
I'm also in Virginia Beach. Bob McDonnell is one of the most anti-women politicians Virginia has had in decades. The idea of this man becoming governor scares me. He might try to ban abortion like the anti-choice governor of South Dakota did. He could probably get enough support in the legislator. For me the worst part is the signs you see when you drive around the city supporting "Virginia Beach's Own Bob McDonnell". Ew. If any other city wants to claim him, feel free.
Also, my mom dragged me to this terrible fake-hipster fundie Church because some good looking Christian rock type guy she knew asked her. Bob McDonnell was the guest and he gave a speech about reclaiming Virginia for the Christians and how he votes based on conscience. When he was among his own, he made it clear that he is still working to this day to accomplish the things laid out in that thesis. He didn't actually mention the thesis by name, and he was vague (in case there were cameras) but you could tell what he meant. He spoke up for "family values" and using "Christian ideals" to govern the state. For her credit my mom never went back and I had to prevent myself from telling her "I told you so" as she is a liberal feminist like me. For some reason she had thought this was a "cool" church or whatever because of what some guy told her. Personally, even if Bob McDonnell hadn't been there the experience was still disturbing on so many levels.
That's a great clip, I love how the guy starts cracking up when he reads that feminism is to blame for weakening the family.
I am pro-choice, pro-gay marriage however,I think feminism is a lost cause. 9 out of 10 women still want the man to be a provider, some one who protects them, takes care of them and makes them feel safe. Woman would always claim to be independent, equals however, inherently they desire to be the weaker sex. Why would they then proudly brag about a mate who is tall, dark and handsome? It's this innate desire that is always going to prevent women from being truly equal to men.
