I submit to you that the feminist movement is the most dangerous, destructive force in our society today. [...] My analysis is that the gays are about 5% of the attack on marriage in this country, and the feminists are about 95%. [...] I'm talking about drugs, sex, illegitimacy, drop outs, poor grades, run away, suicide, you name it, every social ill comes out of the fatherless home.
She was later presented with the "American Hero of the Century" award, in which Mike Huckabee stood up and said "God bless you - and God bless Phyllis Schlafly most of all."

I totally disagree with Mrs. Schafly. I think the number one threat to marriage in this country is fornication and unmarried sex. Not gay marriage or feminist. It's ironic how the law in our society allows the selling of condoms, but outlaws gay marriage.

It's funny, but I almost want to agree with her on this... when the "mainstream" gay movement has turned to demanding the right TO marry while many feminists are still busy explaining what's wrong with the patriarchal concept of marriage, and trying to make their own marriages more egalitarian if they choose to have them, and advocating for women to have equal rights in the workforce and the ability to control their reproductive lives...
Just to be clear, I obviously don't agree with her that same-sex marriage is a problem, nor do I agree with her that feminists criticizing traditional marriage and advocating for women's rights is a problem. But in terms of the relative contributions of those two phenomena to the breakdown of "traditional marriage" I'd agree with her that feminism is by far the more influential.

Sometimes I envy conservatives for their remarkable ability to feel no shame for the illogical and ridiculous things they say. Even if one were to accept (I don't) her assertion that being raised in a fatherless home causes all those societal ills, what is the correlation to feminism? All this does is prove that conservatives have significantly impaired critical thinking skills if they believe that one cannot be a feminist AND raise a child in a traditional, heterosexual, two-parent home.

This woman is terrifying, feminists these days aren't real feminists. REAL Feminism was about equality,true equality. The loudest feminist groups these days are as bad as the misogynist men they claim to oppose, turning around and dumping abuse on Trans Women. A transwoman was shot by police in the shower at a homeless shelter in New Orleans this month because uppity "feminists" whined to them that there was a "man in their shower". Another froze to death awhile back because every women's shelter refused to take her in. Two more died starving and cold squatting in a derelict building because of those same shelters refusing them. This is Feminism at work. Feminism is destructive and counterproductive. They only fight for the women that they deem as counting or worthy of the title, while failing to make any strides towards equality because they are so easily ignored as ranting kooks by those in power.
This woman is a horrible terrible repulsive hateful human being. But screw the marriage debates. All that money being spent to fight and achieve marriage equality on both sides would be better spent educating people on tolerance and buying blankets for shelters.

Arent womens shelters for victims of abuse? I can see why they might be hesitant to let her in. Many of these women have a fear of anything related to men from having PTSD. I did advocacy for one once and the women get really scared of men. They have to recuperate, so be sensitive and dont judge. Anyways how can you prove that the women at the New Orleans place were all feminists?

Your extremist statements about feminism seem counterproductive and end of disqualifying you from any credibility.
Is it really "insensitive" to question the appropriateness of shooting women victims of abuse who are taking refuge at a women's shelter, under the guise of protecting the other women? Trans women are a subset of women. They probably get abused just as often, if not more often, than cis women (they're murdered more, I know that). If abused women aren't safe in women's shelters, where are they safe? Do trans women not have the right to feel safe from violence the way cis women do? There have to be about a million better ways to handle that than to just kill the trannies (or let them die) 'cause their existence inconveniences cis people. That, in my opinion, is about a million times more insensitive.

Feminism and transphobia aren't synonymous. There are segments of feminism that are awful transphobic, because the legitimacy of transgendered people and the idea that gender is a social construct seem to be at odds. The problem is that some feminists confuse "social construct" with "valueless" or "irrelevant". Money's another social construct. It doesn't exist in nature, there have been other societies that don't use it, and physically it's just pieces of paper and metal (and these days, plastic). By the logic of those particular feminists, they should have no qualms about sending me all their money. It's just a social construct! So I think there's a lot of confusion about that (NOT that it's a good excuse). And they might be the loudest, but I don't think they're the majority.
As a sidenote, is it really cool to be calling women shrews? I thought that was a gendered insult.
Purrrple, despite the transphobia I've seen on this board, I don't think many self-respecting feminists would support the events you cite. Saying feminists get trans women killed is inflammatory and untrue.

I don't mean to imply that women (including feminists) don't contribute to and directly cause the marginalization and murder of trans women. Of course women can be and are a part of the problem. But this cannot be blamed on feminists as a group, at least not more so than on men as a group, women as a group, etc; or on feminism as a movement/ideology. I really don't think that's true.

This gets me so riled-up and pissed off, I can't even explain it. My father ran away from my sister, mother and I when we were kids for another woman, and needless to say it was heartbreaking. But guess what. AMAZINGLY ENOUGH, my mother single-handedly raised us herself. I'm 19, have never done any drugs, have never had sex and it's my personal choice to wait until marriage even though I see NO problem with sex whenever and however, attending college for veterinary medicine, have never run away or sneaked out, and never thought about suicide. I'm HAPPY with my life, and I think if my disgusting excuse for a father had stuck around I wouldn't be this way.
And besides, how the fuck does FEMINISM make a man not be a father? I'd like an answer to that. She's basically saying that a woman isn't good enough to raise a child by herself, when I'm the first to testify that my mother was a DAMN good mother and hard worker.
