it's apparent that the guys who designed the videogame were a bunch of undersexed losers who can't get laid, so their sexual desperation goes over the top.
Gross.
That's really all I can say about this right now.
I can't bring myself to follow the link. It's frightening to me that these sorts of applications are being created and consumed.
All your breasts are belong to us.
wow. This goes into the misogyny event of the week pile. I think that this needs to be stopped and should not be allowed to continue.
I'm conflicted. BUT, I can't actually access the app, so my opinion may be different once I can.
I'm conflicted because it SEEMS sexist, but if feminists are trying to desexualize breasts in American culture, wouldn't this be like putting a tattoo on any other part of one's body?
However, the intent is to titilate (har har), and to sell a product, ONCE AGAIN, using a female's body parts (a fact that I don't like).
To conclude my random rambling, if this was a standalone flash game to tattoo a woman's breasts, I don't think I would really have a problem with it.
if this was a standalone flash game to tattoo a woman's breasts
To clarify, I meant one that was not promoting/advertising something else. (In this case, Dirt2)
I don't feel like clicking the link- this kind of thing just bores me. To me though, a standalone flash game to tattoo a woman's breasts would have no other purpose than an objectifying one. If the main focus was for it to just be a tattooing game, then why wouldn't they give you an arm or maybe even a person's back to draw designs on? I personally think a game like that would be boring- perhaps why they've decided to have a set of breasts in attempt to draw interest in their stupid app. Also, note that you're not tattooing a woman. You're tattooing breasts. Looking at her in terms of body parts. Yeah, there's nothing discreet about the sexism here, IMO.
Do you honestly think that just because feminists want to desexualize breasts, the people who play this game are going to fall in line and see it as tattooing something as un-sexy as say, a woman's cheek? It's not the promo that's troublesome. It's the fact that there is a game that is saying "Hey, women's breasts belong to you dudes. How about you put some art on them to suit your tastes?"
No, I don’t honestly think that, and I hope my statement didn't imply that NO ONE sexualizes breasts, because a statement like that would be ridiculous. To clarify, I do have a problem with the game as it is right now. However, what if everyone did see breasts as un-sexy as an arm, would a game like this still be problematic? Or is it because breasts are inherently female that no one is allowed to see them as just another body part, like an arm? (Though, it is clear that is not how the creators of this game see breasts.)
I understand what you're saying but I think a huge part of it has to do with the disconnect in what people think a breast should look like and how they actually look. If they had chosen, say, a breast that had become droopy from age or even breastfeeding, that might have a completely different impression. It's hard to see breasts as just another part of the body like an arm when they always seem to be shown in a way that would cater to what men find visually appealing.
However, there is still a lot to be said about the fact that (I'm assuming) the breast is the only body part that you have a choice to tattoo. Again, just from a game design perspective, if the focus were tattooing then surely you could have the option to put art anywhere on the body. They really could do to give a face to the breast too.
Well obviously if breasts weren't sexualized it would not be problematic. But if breasts were not sexualized, would this game even exist? We can't say for sure, but my guess would be 'no,' since breasts aren't really a good place to put tattoos due to their non-flatness.
One thing I'm sure everyone can agree on: this game, as it stands currently, is just another way to reinforce the idea in men that they are entitled to do what they want to women's breasts (in this case, through means of tattooing.)
I agree.
As for your question about whether this game would even exist, there is a tattoo artist game that I've played before that has different body parts. I dont know if it has breasts though.

I actually a meant a game where all you do is tattoo a skinny woman's large, perky, full breasts. I should have been more clear.
Did anyone read the comments on the BoingBoing link?
Someone stated, "Racism when it happens is bad - however, calling every little thing racist does great injustice to real racism that goes on.
Similarly, misogyny is bad - however, calling an ad campaign misogynist for showing boobies does great injustice to the real misogyny that takes place around us."
I, for one, am simply sick of every idiot who thinks this way or thinks that feminists have little to complain about. You talk about a woman like she's an inanimate object, it's misogyny. You rape a woman like she's an inanimate object, it's misogyny.
PS: I was not aware that there are different types of racism and sexism in terms of real and, I'm assuming, fake. . . ?
PS: I was unaware that racism and sexism have classifications such as real and . . . fake?
And who gets to decide which is which?
Obviously White Men get to decide. After all, they're the only ones who can be truly "objective". -_-;
After years of seeing the INCREDIBLY stupid things that people tattoo on themselves willingly, i find it hard to be too incensed about this. It's juvenile, but I'd rather people go after the gaming "booth babes" and the manchildren who love them. The gaming demographic is changing, and there are ways to make the marketing exciting without T&A. The problem of course is that T&A is the frugal way to get attention from both the young male demographic and the media :(
Heck, I just went ahead and made my own.

The app took some digging to find, but it definitely is creepy. The woman's chest heaves before you tattoo it.
My boob tattoo is going to say, "I hate men." It'll save misogynists the trouble of listening to/reading my thoughts on sexism in order to figure out that I am a dreaded man-hating feminist.
I am sick to death of seeing gigantic jiggling boobs every where I look.
I'm a bit disappointed the game is just about boobs. I would totally dig a game where you can tattoo anything (like a virtual LA Ink). But this is just, well, boring. And yes, slightly creepy.
