Oh, it's ON.
On one side of the ring, we have Senator Joe Lieberman, who said that rape survivors shouldn't have a problem going out of state to get emergency contraception. On the other? Actor Alec Baldwin, a men's rights activist who calls his daughter a "pig" while hiding behind the faux movement of "fathers' rights" and claiming feminism has destroyed American women (but mail order brides are A-OK!) So everyone online is asking: Who is going to get the crown for the Senate seat in Connecticut??
That's right, Alec Baldwin has revealed his intentions to possibly run for the Connecticut Senate seat and defeat Joe Lieberman in 2012. (Which was disclosed in a Playboy interview, I might add. How poetic.) Baldwin says, "I'd love to run against Joe Lieberman. I have no use for him."
Burn!! Lieberman's response? "Make my day." Nothing is more hilarious than two anti-women assholes using cliché sayings to exert their masculinity over one another - and a Clint Eastwood quote, no less.
What's not really funny about is that it's over a seat in the U.S. Senate. But still, thanks for the good laugh, gentlemen.
UPDATE: Baldwin now says he won't run. I guess he knew to back off when Joe busted out the big guns with that Eastwood quote.

Baldwin won't run.
In other news, for $4.6M, you can purchase the crypt directly above Marilyn Monroe. And of course, this is being spun as "spend eternity with Marilyn" because if you're on top, you're basically nailing her for the rest of forever.
Seriously though, I REALLY want someone to run against Lieberman. He is putrid.
Oh, no doubt. But we can do better than Baldwin, just like CT can do better than Lieberman. And frankly, I'm still enjoying 30 Rock.
Yeah, America shouldn't have any other use for Alec Baldwin besides Jack Donaghy.
Hunt for Red October is still a great movie, even if Alec Baldwin is a pretty weird choice for Jack Ryan. Actually, I'd love to see a macho-off between Lieberman and Baldwin because I can't think of many men less manly in public life than those two.
There's no doubt in my mind that if the crypt below Marilyn were available, it would sell for much closer to the minimum than $4.6M. Even with the sexual element still being present, and even if the "winner" were male, the "winner" wouldn't be on top, and if you're not on top, you're not a MAN™.
Now that I think about it, what happened to that crypt's previous occupant, if any?
Also, Joe Lieberman can kiss every square inch of my ass. I will catalog it if I have to.
I like living women, but I happen to like them on top. If you're insinuating I'm not a man, you can tell it to St Patrick and John Kennedy.
I'm not insinuating that you're not a man, but rather, not a MAN™. Yanno, the lad-type who likes "his" women subjugated and gets all the ink in "men's" magazines.
It was a joke / Jack Donaghy reference.
Am I the only person who wonders how Tina Fey feels about Alec Baldwin's whole men's rights activist thing? I have to think that she must beat her head against a wall every time Baldwin gives a quote like this.
I bet she thinks she's really lucky that 30 Rock is getting a fourth season.
Granted Alec Baldwin has said some pretty bizarre things, but from the links here I don't see any misogynistic things. If I had a dollar for everytime my mother called me a pig, I could afford a pretty tricked out sty...Sounds like his family life is totally screwed up both with his ex-wife & daughter, and with his siblings. But saying obnoxious things about your family doesn't count as misogyny.
I agree. Feministing did not provide a good link because, that site does not provide any quotes of Baldwin doggin Feminism, or saying he is a MRA. And what's with bringing up a private matter that happened between him and his daughter, as a way to throw mud on the man. The funny thing is I don't think Feministing would have brought that up if it had been about his son, but that's another matter. Parents unfortunately say mean things to their children all the time. The important thing is that he apologized to her and they have a good relationship now.
I'd also like to add that I think many people say they are MRA because they think Feminism is about beating men down and then stepping over them, so they say I'm not only for women's rights I'm for men's rights as well. I know I use to, before I took a gender studies course and began to understand society better.
MRAs are not for women's rights. A few might say those words, but then everything else that comes out of their mouths shows their utter disdain for women and their hatred of feminists. The only women they purport to like are women who also hate other women.
What ever happened to Sen. Weicker? Last I heard, he was so pissed off over the current crop of toe-rags that he was considering coming out of retirement. Please come back, Senator! I take back all the horrible things I used to say about the boring speeches you used to give to us at school!
I didn't know Alec Baldwin was an MRA! I love 30 Rock. And he doesn't like feminists? I thought he was just acting on that show. I'm kind of devastated right now. Oh God, he probably likes Sarah Palin. I really need to read People or something (or maybe Feministing more often).
I doubt he likes Sarah Palin. He is a self described liberal and he's gone toe-to-toe with Bill O'Reilly a few times.
The MRA stuff comes from the fact that he published a book titled A Promise to Ourselves in support of father's rights. MRA groups supported the book and thus he became associated with them. I don't know that he's ever publicly aligned himself with an MRA groups though.
There is the incident concerning the nasty phone call to his daughter which Vanessa refers to in the original post.
Generally though, it's easier for me to like celebrities when they don't attack their ex-wives through a book/yell at their daughters.
So he's liberal? Thank you for clarifying. I can understand why MRAs would latch onto hinm because of his book. And to be honest, from the things I've heard, he hasn't been treated fairly by his ex-wife in terms of their daughter and I can understand him being very, very tired of all of the games she played with him. Although he shouldn't have had an outburst like he did, lots of people scream at their kids and then regret it. And it was kind of slimy for it to be broadcast, I think. Just my opinion.
