can't believe i'm so excited about confirmation of someone so centrist who was a shoe in from day one, but there you have it. i am. excited! go yankees (sorry, Samhita, but you know she's from up there)!

Yay!

Also, Thurgood Marshall was pretty rad.

Came here to say this. I guess it means 'currently', not 'ever.'

In any event, glad this is finally over with a (relatively) light amount of drama.

Yes currently! Thurgood Marshall was the jam!

I have to agree, Thurgood Marshal rocked!

Also, not to be petty or anything, but I really hate that term SCOTUS (it sounds like some type of urinary tract infection!)

Is it really that hard to call it "The Supreme Court"???

Every time I read the word SCOTUS, I hear the word scrotum in my head. *filthy mind*

Sotomayor is very qualified, I am really glad we got a woman of color on the bench, and, while I don't agree with all of her decisions, I think she sucks a whole lot less than some other certain SCOTUS (heh) nominees in the past when you consider what's been going on in the federal government for the past decade or so.

In law school, we used "USSC" - United States Supreme Court. It's much easier shorthand than SCOTUS, and doesn't look like a word for a body part.

BOO YAH Babee!!! *wildly pumps fists in air*

'Nuff said.

You and Lance got here first on this. I heart T. Marshall.

Let's not exaggerate, she does suck a little. Particularly in regards to her previous decisions denying youth rights...

And let's not forget that she ruled in favor of an anti-choice policy.

I'm glad that she's the first Hispanic on the court, but her politics don't really get me excited enough to really care that much.

this.

Yeah, at the same time that it's exciting, Court justices are just never really a sure thing. I hope hope hope with all my heart that she's good for women.

I think the tendency is for a SCJ to drift leftward if they move at all. Of course there is a small sample group so patterns may be uninstructive.

Fist bump for Thurgood Marshall..his decisions and disents are most wonderful and inspiring!

Thurgood Marshall was awesome, he was my hero from when I was 12 to when I was 15. Don't knock Thurgood.

That being said, I'm really excited about Sotomayor! A+++ Senate

I posted the congratulations for her on my facebook and was bashed because and get this "she is going to ruin our nation with her nonsupport for the second amendment rights" Hello where have these people been since alito aka "I hate the firts amendment in its entirety" and " I know what is better for our country than a document that is more than two hundred years old" got appointed to his position

Oh, but the point isn't that a "good" justice should support rights and the Constitution and all that jazz, but that they should support YOUR favorite rights and the parts of the Constitution YOU like.

Ugh...I guess I'm the only one not happy about her confirmation.

When I watched those numbers climb, I kept hoping that more democrats would vote against her...but that was wishful thinking. Seeing the votes reach the 50 needed I deflated.

I think all the Supreme Court Justices should support the Constitution. Every bit of it. Considering the Bill of Rights is based on Natural Law.
If you can't tell, I am passionate about the constitution. And I happen to own a handgun myself; and am looking to purchase another soon :) One for home and one for carry.
