Congrats to Jess, and the other friends of feministing, who were named 40 Under 40 to watch by the New Leaders Council. We couldn't agree more. (Jess and Andrew are now an official political power couple! Watch out world!)

At risk of being considered incredibly dumb, 'DL' = gay? Or gay and not out?

I believe that DL is short for "down low". When something is "kept on the down low" it's kept hush-hush or secret. So you're basically right.

Bitch posted a round-up of stories yesterday on how the election and protests effect women’s rights in Iran, and continues to update it as more are published.

I'm really disappointed in your lack of analysis of the images we're seeing of women from the Iranian protests. Racialicious (http://www.racialicious.com/2009/06/17/you-say-you-want-a-revolution-in-a-loose-headscarf/) and California NOW (http://www.canow.org/canoworg/2009/06/western-media-women-iranian-demonstrations.html) have been pointing out how the images we're seeing are being deliberately chosen to create a Western-focussed narrative that is disrespectful of the lived experiences of the protesters.
