We're having a big pow-wow about our five year anniversary fund raising blow out. It's so exciting--great DJs, amazing live bands, and gift bags for the first 50 people who show up and--we're hoping--really cool raffle prizes. First and foremost, don't forget to buy your ticket asap and tell all of your friends. The ticket price will go up day of.
We are looking for people who own businesses, provide services etc. that would like to raise their profile among our readers by donating items/services for the raffle. Do you:
- manage a clothing store or design your own clothing label?
- run a yoga studio?
- have a friend or family member who works somewhere that might want to donate awesome gadgets, gift certificates, or airline miles?
- work at a restaurant that might want to donate a dinner?
We're specifically looking for big, thrilling items for the raffle! Contact Vanessa (vanessa@feministing.com) with the subject line PARTY DONATION if you're got something to pass on.
Thanks y'all.

Can the businesses be from outside the NY area? Meaning that the gift certificate can only be redeemed in, say, Washington DC?
Hey, Courtney, pow-wow has a very specific meaning to many indigenous peoples in North America, so please be careful how you use it. Thanks!
Yeah...pow-wow?
Uh, that was to Courtney, not Moirana.
Point taken. I wasn't really thinking very clearly when I threw the post up (we were on our very last brain cells), but I apologize if I offended anyone.
I'm going to be so glad when this party is over.
Why, because you can't be inconvenienced for five seconds by their occasional posts about it? These women have worked hard for five years! To throw themselves-- and us fabulous readers-- a party in celebration of their accomplishments is completely deserved. Give 'em a break!
Or is it just that you're jealous you can't go and you don't want the reminder? (Because I feel you there!) ;)
Got it on two.
The party happens about six hours after I go off to work at a summer camp that my friends and I have dubbed "you can't be queer camp."
Hmm. I run an ESL company in Central Ohio, which is of no use. Wish I had something big and fabulous to donate!
Do the examples seem a little gendered to anybody else? Fashion, yoga, and food service? That looks like the sort of list that would be criticized if it came from a less trusted source. I get that context matters, but still.
How exactly are those examples gendered? Unless you're suggesting that only women wear clothes, do yoga, or eat food?
It seems clear that the moderators at Feministing are yoga freaks. Giveaway dinners are pretty standard fare for raffles, also.
I suppose you could construe fashion prizes for feminists as gendered but...considering that other things on the list are gender-neutral (gift certificates/airline miles/gadgets), I think it was just whatever came to mind at the time the article was written.
Hmm, I have a business that I might be willing to contribute something but I don't know if anyone would actually want any of it.... What do you think?
