Michelle Obama's Sesame Street PSA!
Love her, love Elmo. (Transcript after the jump.)
Michelle Obama: Hi everyone!
Elmo: What does Mrs. Obama want to do today on Sesame Street?
MO: Well, first, I want to get some exercise. So I'm going to take a walk around SS
E: Well, if Mrs. Obama exercises, Elmo wants to exercise too. Yay exercise!
MO: If you want your child to have healthy habits, practice healthy habits too. Because you're your child's best role model.
E: Come on, Mrs. Obama!

This is awesome.
Also, this has nothing to do with anything, but I think Kevin Clash is one of the greatest, most positive and most talented entertainers in America that no one has ever heard of. So here's to Kevin Clash, voice of Elmo, Hoots and Clifford.
It's so cute!!! I heart Michelle Obama. She's so cool!
Agreed, awesome PSA and I love Michelle Obama! But honestly, I didn't even know Sesame Street was still on TV haha.
Yeah its been on forever, but the preschoolers still watch it. I read somewhere that they released the original season on DVD, but they had to include a warning that it was not suitable for children. Apparently in the 1960s it was ok to have a kids' show that depicted a little girl going home with a strange man for milk and cookies.
Apparently, they put in that warning because it had scenes suggestive of tobacco use. (Cookie Monster was shown using a pipe in the "Monsterpiece Theater" sketch.)
Oh, does that mean there was no going home with strangers (or at least talking to strangers) in the first episodes? That makes the story much less interesting.
I've seen some of the original episodes because my library has them on DVD, and I can say times have changed in a good way.
The early episodes included characters scampering up and down the fire escapes to get to the hot dog vendor more quickly(very unsafe and something my toddler would copy), kids playing with glass bottles, eek. There were no women with jobs, no named female muppets. It's still got great music and funny scenes but I'm glad for the updates.
Great to have Michelle Obama on!
Very cool I like her a lot.
This is great!! Lifelong habits form at a very young age....and who better to remind us of that than Michelle Obama, right?!?!
Hmm. It's too bad she mentioned just exercise. She should have mentioned something like ... hey, your kids are going to pick up your racist/homophobic hatred. But I do already recall seeing PSAs about not passing on hatred.
It's not healthy, you know?, being bullied and called homophobic names at school.
This is great! Love her, love Elmo, love Sesame Street!
