I'm hesitant to say this because in one way it's sort of unfeminist, but she's really a really beautiful woman!

(I think the unfeminist-ness of judging a woman's appearance is canceled out by the feminist-ness of seeing beauty in older women, in this case)

Anyhow, great news!

I agree. I love when women sport gray hair.

I agree that she is attractive, but where is she on the issues?

I have to admit I agree -- she is very attractive. Sometimes one just can't help but notice.

I agree. This is the first photo I've seen of her, and that BEAUTIFUL hair just says elegant and unapologetic to me. That's the kind of hair I would love to have when I'm her age. Doesn't that photo just say knowledge and experience and confidence? I think it's a great photo for a public figure.

and double woot on the confirmation!

Agreed -- this photo is especially great, too, she looks very sharp.

People should not have to apologize for noticing that a woman is beautiful or that a man is handsome and paying a just compliment. We just have to be cautious that we are not judging the quality of their character based upon looks.

If you're happy that she appointed because she's attractive, then that's sexist. Or, if you're happy just because any woman got the appointment rather than happy that she got the appointment based on her credentials.

I don't see that on these comments, so I think we're good.

I'm happy that someone's been confirmed so that person can get to work. I have a feeling that we're going to need good leadership to deal with the swine flu not to mention other health issues. I am not familiar enough with her politics to form an opinion on how I think she'll do, but I'm ready to find out.

THAT is awesome news. I may do a little dance now.

YEAH! I love good news!

Very good news. Dawn Johnsen, a fantastic pick at OLC, is up next and will be more of a fight, but if the Democrats remember about recess appointments, it shouldn't really be too bad. Any sustainable filibuster should be met with an immediate recess being called by Harry Reid, appointment to follow.

It's nice to have such awesome women allies in our administration!
