Eh, I thought it could have been a lot funnier/more informative. The storm metaphor is stupid, but making fun of it for 3 solid minutes isn't that interesting. I would have rather had them say something like "I'm a California doctor who must choose between my faith and my job. Because doctors being allowed to withhold treatment from people who they think are icky is the best way to fix our failing medical system." Or "I'm a Massachusates mother who watches helplessly as the public schools teach my children that gay marriage is ok, black kids are people too, and girls should learn math."

I'm a bit disappointed because I usually like most of those actors/comedians. (I was trying to place that one blonde girl who isn't Elliot from scrubs.. was she Cher in Clueless? She looks a bit like her but I'm not sure.)

Yeah she is, the movie not the TV show; it's Alicia Silverstone.

And I thought this was brilliant. I liked that they kept at the storm metaphor; after all, that's what was such a ridiculous hyperbole in the original PSA.

[0+] Author Profile Page Pantheon replied to Nicole :

Well, they could have stuck with the storm metaphor and still included some other points. This one seems like they're saying the storm metaphor is stupid, but not saying much about the actual issue. I'd rather have them make some points about why gay marriage is not scary. Not everyone watching this will know that George Takei is married to a man.

Pantheon,
You're right, your lines would have made this ten times better. Making fun of the ad's stupidity, but also presenting the issues/ pointing out how ridiculous their "arguments" were. Then again, to anyone with a functioning brain, the stupidity of the "arguments" is so apparent, that they probably thought they didn't need to worry about making points with the parody.

I keep trying to think of a good line for the "affecting MY life" person. How about something like "because just knowing that somewhere out there, gay people have health benefits, makes my blood boil, and that affects ME"

[0+] Author Profile Page BackOfBusEleven replied to Pantheon :

Or something like, "Those aren't angels bowling." Or "April showers bring gay flowers." "Rain, rain, go away. Come again when you're not gay."

Could have been improved with more George Takei but then again, what couldn't? Nothing thats what.

Because...doctors hate gay people. lol.

I think it was awesome. Very funny.

Man, I LOVED this. Everyone in the video was equally hilarious.

Also, I couldn't help but be reminded of Cher Horowitz when Alicia Silverstone was talking, so that made me happy.

No comments on the "Man Lady Marriage" bit? Seriously?

[0+] Author Profile Page CarolynKL said:

Oh, Sarah Chalke. I'd watch her in anything.

Obligatory comment on the "Man Lady Marriage" association, or NAMBLA.

[0+] Author Profile Page katemoore replied to CarolynKL :

That's not what I meant. I might be interpreting it, but it seemed like an idiotic "HA HA this woman looks like a man and that is the PINNACLE OF HILARITY!" non-joke.

I think it's just 'Man Lady Marriage' as in 'organization for marriage between men and women only'. I don't think they're also trying to make a joke about how the actress looks.

[0+] Author Profile Page NellMood replied to katemoore :

That actress was Jane Lynch, who I think also directed and wrote the commercial. I don't think she looks like a man, so I don't really see that joke. I think it was just a play on the name of the organization behind the real commercial, which is called the National Organization for Marriage.

Pretty good, but I have yet to see one that stands up to Colbert's spoof, which was just perfection.

[0+] Author Profile Page Pantheon replied to cand86 :

Yeah, his was better.

Didn't his end with "paid for by anonymous donations from people who may or may not be the church of jesus christ of latter day saints"

I didn't know Sofia Bush supported gays. I just started watching One Tree Hill and it's nice to see the actors support this.

It's raining men, Hallelujah...

WIN!
