It's hard to believe, but today is our 5th blogiversary! (Even more difficult for me to fathom is that I'm home on a Saturday night/Sunday morning to blog about it. Ah, how times change.)
When I started Feministing five years ago, I definitely had no idea what was in store for us. And I certainly never imagined that we'd be as successful as we are - with such a talented roster of writers, dedicated community bloggers, and commenters and readers who make up what I think is a pretty fabulous feminist community. So thanks, y'all, for making Feministing what it is; I'm incredibly grateful to all of you. (Especially my co-bloggers, who rock my socks.)
I'm going to do a little blast-from-the-past and "best of" blogging today (after I get a little sleep!), but for now feast your eyes on what Feministing used to look like when we first started...

Happy birthday, Feministing! Thank you to Jessica and all the co-bloggers for keeping this up and providing such a great place for feminists from all over to join in discussion and debate. Go Feministing!
I'm so happy to share a birthday with Feministing!
Well, and I just finished making cupcakes.
Now, instead of being Easter cupcakes, they're birthday cupcakes!
Thank you Feministing!
About two years ago, my sister sent me the link to Feministing, telling me that I should learn more about feminism. Not thinking anything about it, I clicked on the link, read the articles, and soon became hooked. I then began to identify myself as a feminist.
I can safely say that Feministing.com raised my self-esteem and helped me to become a stronger woman/girl (I'm only 17).
Happy Anniversary! We're looking forward to another great year of feministing.
Mid-time lurker, first time poster. Thank you so much for everything you do. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!
YAY FEMINSTING! I LOVE YOU ALL! The blog looked SO different, wow. I'm glad you ladies changed the look of it, it looks a billion times better.
Thank you for ALL that you do. You all take a lot of shit from a lot of people for speaking your minds, but I want to thank you thank you thank you for being OUR voice!
Happy birthday! I'm new to Feministing, but I think it's great and becoming a feminist has changed my life for the better. Thank you for all that you do.
Happy birthday Feministing!! Thanks for all your hard work and all the wealth of information that is shared here. I have become a better feminist because of it!!
I found Feministing during my senior year of high school. It's crazy hard to believe that I graduate college in a couple months. Thanks for standing there with me through this whole higher education thing, Feministing!
Happy Birthday, feministing!!
I only became an avid follower of the blog recently. Since leaving college, I've missed having my close knit feminist community. Here in the suburbs, hardcore feminists are hard to find! Thank you for being my new community. You're also inspiring me to reach out to people where I live, but sometimes it's good to know I have this virtual community to fall back on.
Love you all!
yay, FELIZ CUMPLEANOS FEMINISTING!
my favorite and most informative blog. i loooove youuuuu.
Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Feministing, happy birthday to you!!!!
Happy Birthday Feministing! (and happy birthday to me too! 20 years!)
5 years! That's amazing...
I found this blog about a year ago and it is my companion every morning with my coffee. I love Monty, Not Oprah's Book Club, Sarah Haskins (!!!), all of your opinions and discourse, the optimism that helps temper the pessimism of certain situations, your wit, and your overall awesomeness. :)
Keep it up, ladies -- you've opened my eyes and made me do a lot of thinking!
WOW. I can't even believe how far Feministing has come. Congratulations!
Feministing! Congratulations from Copenhagen, Denmark!
I discovered your blog about 3 years ago, when I was researching a story about feminists conquering the web, and hello!
Thank you for always being intelligent, wise, beautiful, different, open ... and just for being there!
The biggest kick for me is discovering how many incredibly intelligent women there are out there! You are all great, great role models, so please keep it up!
Happy Birthday Feministing!
Congratulations on five years! I am very happy that this blog is on my feed list. Here's to many more wonderful years to come!
AND MANY MOOOOOOORE!
Happy Anniversary Feministing! Thanks for all you do!
Happy Birthday Feministing!
I'm a fairly new reader, I found this blog last spring. I can't even begin to express how thankful I am that you provide this space online. I am from a very traditional "Why should girls go to school? Will you meet a husband there?" sort of family and coming to this blog...thank you.
All of the Feministing contributors are smart as hell, funny and courageous. You are all on the front lines (with your real names!) questioning, deconstructing and fighting for those of us to are often afraid to speak. Thank you not only for your writing, but also your activism.
The feministing community has been a wonderful addition to the site as well. Offering everyone a space in the blog to voice opinions and posts has led to even more thoughtful discussions.
So again, thank you for all the fabulous work you've done in five years (though I was late to the party!). I look forward to the rest of this year =)
congrats & happy birthday feministing! you've been my go-to site for feminist news for over three years :)
I found this site three years ago when I was linking around the feminist blogosphere and my image of feminists was limited to people like Gloria Steinem, NOW, and Naomi Wolf. I can't think of a better blog focused on feminism and making feminism accessible to young women than this one, or any that could replace it. Thank you!
And to curious young men as well.
Happy Birthday!
I looked up Feministing Star Chart online. (I did alabe.com, you don't really need to give your email.) I don't really believe in astrology, but it did seem to give a good analysis of the site's personality. Here's some things it said:
...By nature, you are very energetic and high-spirited. You are fiercely independent -- you must be first in everything you do, and you enjoy taking risks.
...A slow and careful thinker, you like to present ideas visually and concretely.
You are friendly, warm, open and tolerant toward others. You love variety in relationships, indeed you may even prefer to maintain more than one relationship at a time! Very witty and humorous, you have the ability to amuse and please others.
...Your energies get turned on quickly whenever anything interests you. But you have a very short attention span and it is difficult for you to complete tasks because something else more interesting always seems to be beckoning. You love to debate and argue, usually in a spirit of friendly disagreement.
...You, and most of your peers, are extremely idealistic and want to change society by completely reorienting its highest religious goals and aspirations.
...For your entire generation, society's cherished beliefs and totems will be radically changed. Many traditional concepts will be totally altered, if not completely destroyed. The rights of individuals to pursue their own course in life will be reasserted.
Happy Birthday & thank you for a provocative & educational 5 years! Cheers!
I’ve been visiting this site for several years. I’m a bit older than most of the contributors here (and most of the commenters, too!) but I still learn something every time I come here. So, thank you. Thank you for educating me, challenging me, moving me, entertaining me, and introducing me to a whole host of amazing, subversive, intelligent, energetic, inspiring, diverse, feminist women!
Happy 5th Blogiversary! Here’s to many, many more.
Hello! I'm an frequent reader but first time commenter. I just want to thank you all for running and contributing to this wonderful blog. I've recently graduated, and am dearly missing the feminist community and conversations that were very powerful for me during college. Feministing is really a lifeline. I know you often deal with crappy comments and anti-feminist mail-I just want to let you know how much I, and other "lurkers" appreciate your work! It's inspiring to know that I'm not the only woman in my age range who isn't afraid to identify as a feminist, and it's inspiring to see you all doing work you're passionate about. Thank you!
