Finally, there's an environmentally friendly way to dispose of used or broken vibrators, dildos, plugs, or any other sex toy you may have. Our Sex Toy Recycling program offers you a way to recycle sex toys that you no longer want or use.Simply drop your clean used toy(s) in the mail, when we receive it in our warehouse we will have it cleaned and disassembled. The rubber, silicone, hard plastics, metal, e-waste and motors will be sent to recycling facilities that process the materials for reuse. Did you leave the batteries in? Don't worry, we dispose of them responsibly..
Now, when you get rid of that old, broken or unused sex toy, you will be helping our environment. You can feel good that you have done one more thing to cut consumer waste, reduce landfills and help eliminate the toxic chemicals that seep into our soil and ground water.
Not only do we make recycling your sex toys simple, we also offer a reward as an incentive. For every package of toys you send in to be recycled, you will receive a $10 gift card to use at one of our affiliate partners as well free shipping when applicable on your next order. So the more you recycle, the more you can play. Going green has never been this much fun!
Sounds like a win win to me.

I actually think that this is a real cool idea. Anyway that we can reduce waste we should. Plastic going into landfills is never a good idea.
Thank you for posting this! Miriam, you are on a role today!
Score! This is a very cool program.
What do I do with my old laptop? It doesn't work, it has crashed so many times, and it's pretty much dead. I want to get rid of it, but I can't find any environmentally friendly ways to get rid of my laptop. I don't think it's safe to just throw it out in the trash. Somebody got any good suggestions?
Whatever you do, make sure you wipe the hard drive first. Like really secure erase it, not just drag stuff to the recycle bin.
If you have a Torx screwdriver (the ones that look like 6-pointed stars), you can take apart the hard drive and salvage the rare-earth magnets inside. They're fun to play with and good for teaching kids about magnetism.
Hey that's right up my alley!
In Texas, the organization that I work for passed a bill in 2007 that requires all computer companies to take back their obsolete products from consumers for free recycling. (We're now working to get TV companies to do the same.) These programs are popping up state-by-state, and hopefully this will produce a national bill within the next few years. If it's a Dell or Apple, they have the best programs and you can go to their websites. Since I live in Texas, I don't know about other manufacturers' programs outside of the state. Perhaps if you rummage around our website (www.texasenvironment.org) there will be a link to a state-by-state guide.
Oh and recycling sex toys? Hell yeah!
LARGE numbers of internal-use sex toys were made from phthalate high plastic "gel" - I have some myself.
It smells, it leaches, it's not good stuff in your body, or in the earth - none of which we knew in 2001, or at least, not me LOL!
Found out quick enough....
To be honest, an environmentally friendly way of getting rid of those babies would be really welcome - knowing what I now do, it's 100% silicone all the way!
This is a good thing, but honestly a few sex toys getting thrown out here and there are an atom-sized drop in an ocean sized bucket of waste. Let me put my tree-huggin' pants on and go for a rant.
We can't get half of the people to recycle things that are easily recyclable even when it's handled by a free service that comes to their curb. Aluminum is somewhere near 99% recyclable (this is even higher than paper) and aluminum production is toxic to the environment and requires a great deal of energy. I live in a state with a can refund and I STILL see people throwing cans in the garbage. The over packaging of products leads to absurd amounts of waste. And at least in the U.S., we seem obsessed with making everything disposable. Even the stuff that is not intentionally disposable is made with such shoddy quality that we end up disposing of them and replacing them. Then there is the issue of all the electronics going into dumps which do more than simply waste resources, they are toxic.
I'm glad to see a program like this one, but I wish we could see more of a push for awareness on recycling programs that will make a bigger impact. Or better yet, ways to decrease the initial bulk that needs to be disposed. Ok, removing tree-hugging rant pants.
You're not wrong of course - but THIS is the kind of story/campaign the media's got to LOVE, right, and wakes people up to the potential of recycling?
Yeah, I realize it sounds like I'm just trying to rain down pessimism on this project when I really do think it's a great idea. You are absolutely right that it has potential to generate some good media attention. It's just sad that there are people who work very hard to create programs like this when the masses can't even be bothered to separate a few things and put them out on the curb.
Lisa makes a good point.
Another question I have is that the $10 gift card seems to be only redeemable at some site called Vibrator Shopping, unless I'm mistaken.
Anyone know anything about their credibility?
Seems like the recycle business is a way to drive traffic to their actual toy-selling business. Hmph.
Yay! Finally we have a place to recycle these things. Thanks for the post, I'm totally loving it!
the vib shop seems like a good place to buy. You know, I have thought about what is/isn't good to put into my body, but never thought of the implications of those nasty chemicles that they found in kids toys could have held over into the adult market? Creepy, how do you know if yours may have that ooky stuff in it?
This is a great idea. I don't know if I'd use the gift card since I'm partial to edenfantasy, but maybe as people notice this service other companies might hop on to the affiliate program in the future.
I have to agree that edenfantasys is a great place to buy sex toys. Their search functions are very good.
Since this recycling program is looking for affiliates I was surprised that there wasn't a link indicating companies that are affiliated with them. Perhaps it is as tpaperny said and it is only to get people to buy from Vibrator Shopping, but until that link appeared I had no clue where to spend the reward coupons.
There's an online adult shop here in the UK called LoveHoney which does a 'rabbit amnesty'. You send them your old 'rabbit' vibrator, and they dispose of it in an environmentally friendly way. In return for doing this, you get a new rabbit vibrator half-price. It's awesome, and a good incentive to get people sending their old toys in to be disposed of properly. :o)
Hi All,
Regarding Sex Toys is it too much to ask for us women to give up dildoes? We have gone too far in objectifying people as just sexual organs and nothing else. I was digusted when I read the post by Jessica about the boob vending machine in Japan and I am just as disgusted by dildoes and phallus shaped vibrators. Please, we are more than just breasts and penises.
As a self-proclaimed "forever bachelorette" who is
A. not particularly monogamous and
B. who is too busy to enter any long term relationship let me just say that yes, it is too much to ask me to give up my vibrators. Particularly because it is currently the safest sex that I can have. Plus, the ones I own are vaguely phallic rather than to-scale life like penis models.
I think that the point of posting about the boob vending machine is that it was obviously supposed to be comical. I can hardly imagine that people were buying fake boobs to go home and masturbate with because you can only buy one at a time and they aren't attached to each other.
There's nothing funny, on the other hand, about me and my sex toys.
Say it, Meggy B!
It gladdens my heart to hear a woman who is unabashed and in control of her right to pleasure, with or without a partner! Of course, as a founder of Scarlet Girl Pleasure Parties my opinion is completely biased.
We are much more than boobs or penises, however sex (and sexuality!) are a huge part of the human existence, and a strong drive in many of our actions. Women deserve pleasure whether they choose to have a partner or not, and sex with yourself is the safest sex you can have!
Now that we know more about materials of many sex toys we are moving toward making those even safer (silicone or glass - can I get a witness!?), and by providing a solution for earth friendly disposal of toys when they are at the end of their useful lives.
Scarlet Girl now provides a sex toy recycling program, and offers a $10 credit on a future purchase when clients send in their old or broken toys. The toys are disassembled, directed into separate waste streams, and delivered to a local recycler.
For some reason Jessica's post and many of the comments following it did not feel comical in nature. And I agree with them. Reducing people to their genitals and breasts dehumanizes them and this dehumanization is one reason why may people do not take rape and sexually related crimes as seriously as it should be. I am a feminist too but should our sexual pleasure take a priority over respecting people?
Clarification: I didn't mean that the post was supposed to be funny, but the existence of the machine itself was created for shits and giggles, not as a rolling sex toy shop.
