So Samhita and I will be holding it down for the Feministing Crew this year at the Women Action and the Media Conference.
If you're gonna be there be sure to come say hi and check out two Feministing events. The first, I'm speaking on a panel that I am super psyched about. Jack from Angry Brown Butch and Feministe, Julia Serano (amazing author, performer and activist) and activist extraordinaire Kate Bovitch and I will be speaking on a panel called In/Out of Focus: Gender, Non-conformity and the Media on Saturday morning at 11am. I'm honored to be on a panel with these awesome people and I think it will be a great conversation about gender non-conformity and feminism.
Also on Saturday Samhita and I will also organize a Feministing caucus, you can come chat and meet other Feministing readers. Look for info at the WAM registration area.
Hope to see you all in Boston!

I won't be at the conference unfortunately, but I will be seeing Sarah Haskins speak that night. It would be cool to meet up with other bloggers and readers that night, though, so perhaps you can post an update to the site with info on where you'll be?
I'd love to hear more about the panel you're putting on. Is it primarily focused on entertainment media or news media? I'm in Syracuse, NY, and a transwoman was murdered here a few months ago in what was clearly a hate crime. A group of us are hosting a media training next week to work with local media on reporting on trans issues; the coverage of the the murder here was pretty bad.
I had to read that sentence in the link a few times before I realized that the panel itself is Saturday at 11, not focusing specifically on "Media on Saturday morning at 11am". I kept trying to figure out what show(s) is/are in that timeslot. ::snerk::
Sadly, I can't afford to attend, but I hope you have a fun and productive time.
i go to school in boston and i'm living abroad right now. =( is it always in beantown, or does it relocate every year?
hi, mags.
WAM has been going on since 2003 or 2004, and has been in Cambridge every year because Center for New Words (the hosting org) is based there. (If you are in Boston and haven't checked out CNW's events, you should -- they are amazing and CNW is a great place to find feminist community.) I've heard rumors that WAM! is thinking of hosting in different locations in the future, but so far that hasn't happened. So - stay tuned on the CNW mailing list for info about next year. The first year, it was at Simmons, but every year since then it's been held at MIT's Stata Center near Kendall Square.
