C'mon, she fucked up and everyone knows it.
ive seen this before, it's so ridiculous. does a wife's life really ought to revolve around pleasing her husband?
What I think is most interesting about this is the implication that the domestic housewife must compete with the whorish office women. It seems to be playing off the fear of the time that there were these promiscuous jezebels -- these newly introduced "working women" -- at the office tempting their husbands all day long. As much as this focuses on the domestic dynamic, it also works to pit women against other women and to secure the housewife's sense of marital loyalty and her own worth.
Well stated, Tara K.
What I found to be insidious about this commercial is the veiled threat of violence as well as the witholding of affection. Not to overstate the issue, but this is textbook emotional abuse.
When put in context with other media from the era and compared with contemporary media (those creepy Electrolux Kelly Ripa ads) there is a clear illustration about the contruction of gender roles.

I knew there was possibly another reason why I liked Maxwell House aside from the fact that Junior Johnson used to field a #22 Maxwell House Ford Thunderbird.
And this video proved my love for Maxwell House, as Folgers cut an ad in support of the 1950s way of life.
Does anyone remember the Tasters Choice commercials with Anthony Head (Rupert Giles from the Buffy series)? He's so hot. Those were the best. The ad campaign was like a soap opera.
Yes, I remember those commercials and loved them. Glad I'm not the only one who remembers them.
Yea!
That jerk would have a mug shoved up his arse and a boot out the door if he talked to me like that.
You like my coffee? Really? NOW can we have our weekly bout of the sex?
As at feminists the limited resources for global trips and dialogue, it is frequent even more vital studying of is how to be global in consciousness, operating thus locally. For this purpose we should oppose to the tendency to allocate the "international" work in a special category of political activity which often consider as inaccessible to the majority of women. This tendency reflects hierarchical patriarchal custom, according to which “world level” above “local level”. While I consider vital that the people working at global level, had a concrete operational experience at local level in the past, I do not think, that it is useful to consider the international sphere as transition to higher level.
To perform work at global level difficult and demands experience. But, probably, today the most important global requirement is a development of the most effective ways for women in regions to operate with the global approach and to be connected worldwide with other feministic organisations arising "from below".
