The Omega Women's Institute is holding an intergenerational women's conference for some thought-provoking panels and inspirational dialogue this coming fall, and we are incredibly stoked about it. So stoked, in fact, that we're teaming up with them to help spark some discussion in the blogosphere pre-conference as well as liveblog the actual conference for Feministing readers (and feminists worldwide!) to enjoy.
The unique thing about Women and Power: Connecting Across the Generations is that it will be coming out of the Omega Institute, which is one of the longest running centers on spiritual growth in this country. It was co-founded by feminist Elizabeth Lesser in 1977 and, as such, it has continuously been at the forefront of linking the personal and the political. We're excited to see the ways in which the Omega approach infuses the often disappointing dialogue on intergenerational feminism with the depth and complexity it deserves.
From now until the conference, the Institute and ourselves will be bringing you guest posts and other updates to foster some pre-conference discussion and give you more of an idea of what to expect on the conference weekend, September 11-13th. In the meantime, check out more info here and you can find all Omega-related updates on Feministing here.

I would really love to attend this conference but seeing that I can barely afford my heat bill for this month, I can't imagine being able to pay $400-500 to go to this. It seems like the people that would benefit the most from attending a conference like this are the ones that can never afford to attend. Economic privilege anyone????
Srlsy! I would love to attend this, but I don't have the scrill for it, either. It s total economic privilege. I guess us "poor" feminists will have to hear about it 2nd or 3rd hand. It's almost $600 with basic camping. No feminist summer camp for this lady. :(
How sad. It's great to set up conferences like this, but there are SO many that can't afford to go; especially right now. It's too bad that you ladies have to simply read about things like this. :(

By calling us "ladies" don't you think you are being a bit condescending?
We totally understand how prohibitive the registration costs are for some folks. That's why we're doing everything we can to connect people with scholarships:
http://www.eomega.org/omega/scholarships/
APPLY! They are giving out a ton.
And we're also trying to create this online experience that you can access free here.
They also offer these discounts for folks:
20% discount for students
20% discount for seniors (over 60)
20% discount for bringing a friend, coworker, or family member
(Must register together to get discount.)
Hey I just want to say that I went last year on a scholarship (although my mom bought my plane ticket as a way to support that I got the rest paid for) and it was AMAZING. I am going again this year with my mother. As soon as I found out that the theme was about generations of women coming together, I decided that bringing my mom contributes to the idea of fostering an open discussion between women of all ages. Plus, she's in need of some empowerment and healthy interactions with courageous, inspiring women from various walks of life.
