NYPD officers accused of raping an intoxicated woman

Trigger warning

From The New York Times:

Two police officers have been assigned to desk duty while prosecutors and the police investigate a complaint that at least one of them raped an intoxicated woman after they escorted her into her apartment in the East Village three months ago, the police said on Sunday.

Footage from a nearby bar's video surveillance camera shows the two officers helping the woman into her building on Dec. 7 and returning twice during the next two hours, according to the bar owner, who provided the video to investigators.

The woman was so impaired, that she got sick in a cab and the driver called 911. The video shows the officers helping her home and leaving. It then shows them returning to her apartment 39 minutes later, in which one of the officers notices the video. When the video catches them leaving, it appears as if they're trying to avoid the camera's range.

The Internal Affairs Bureau is conducting an investigation, but no arrests have been made yet.

Wow. That's just lovely. You can't even trust the police! I sincerely hope those two men are actually charged and don't just get a free pass for being cops.

I can't get over it though. They came back twice. On video. What were they thinking? Really now. And they stole the poor woman's key to get in the second time!

It's disgusting; it's just disgusting.

This totally triggered a scene from one of my more memorable PTSD nightmares. A man tries to rape me, I run away and plead for help, then that person attempts, on and on until I come across a police officer...and he does the same.

I'm disgusted but not the least bit surprised by this story. At least there's some evidence that might be taken seriously.

Clearly you must be white, or neither the betrayal by the police or the fact that they will probably get off light would surprise you.

You might want to add a trigger warning to this one, Jessica!

Thanks, you're right - adding now!

I'm impressed by this woman's friends who took their friend's allegations seriously and did detective work of their own (they were the ones that asked the bar owner for her surveillance footage). May we all be lucky enough to have friends like these during such terrible times.

I ditto maja_dren's comment that if these disturbing and disgusting allegations prove true, these predators must be justly punished.

This is too horrible. You call for help to feel safe, but you can't trust those who help you?? WTF?

Anyone have any clue if the surveillance cam is the same as the surveillance camera
