Quick Hit: Daily Kos' One Woman Quota Met

I'm torn here--so proud to be included in the Daily Kos Pundit Round Up of writing reflecting on what today means to the country and the to the world, so irritated to be the only woman included. An excerpt of my column:

It is the beginning of a more engaged, more hopeful citizenry. With leaders that treat us as more than a 300-million-person focus group, we can effectively hold those leaders accountable. We are no longer a manipulated mass, a nation of children embarrassed by our father's simple-mindedness and impulsive rage. We have stepped into our own power through this election process, grown wiser and more informed than any electorate in decades. Like the wide-eyed children who have found a new hero, we will inevitably be disillusioned, but at least we will be passionate. Indifference and apathy have been replaced with investment and the related risks. I'd much rather live in a country in danger of disappointment than in a nation of indifference.

Courtney: Congratulations (I think?). I read your entire post a couple of hours ago on the American Prospect website -- wonderful balance of hopefulness & a sober analysis of the challenges we face. Here's hoping that the "new kind of grace" you allude to does, indeed, come to pass.

What a beautiful piece! I felt that it mirrored Obama's speech quite nicely: both laid out that we have huge challenges and it will be a steep climb towards social and economical progress, but we HAVE made progress and we CAN get there. Obama is certainly not the messiah, but he is a very welcome change in leading our country towards intellectualism, compassion, and responsibility.

I guess the question is why are you proud?

You're an accomplished author, writer, blogger, etc and I don't think you need the stamp of approval from a site that keeps telling us that women's issues are getting in the way of real progress. Admittedly I haven't read that site in years due to their vision on how to get shit done. So correct me if they have since embraced the idea that women's issues are worthy of being the focus of politics.

I seriously would love to hear your thoughts. Not a slam, just curious.
