Honolulu to NY is a long commute for a book reading, but I might just do it for this one. I just got my copy via Amazon the other day, and have already read half. It is fabulous...the variety of voices and experiences is so refreshing and the language is just right- smart but not jargon-y. When I start teaching again, this is required reading. Congrats to you all for a job VERY well done. :-)
Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarasinha's essay on incest survival is really beautiful. So on point. I especially liked toward the end when she talks about sustainable movement building around sexual violence as a tool for survival and healing and not burning out or "forgetting" about your experience. So real and amazing. I have a survivor crush on her now. I like her visioning and her work. She talked about working with an awesome organization I was already excited to check out.
I tell you what its awful to live in London! I can't come to any of the events! :[
Last night was great; you ladies are awesome! Hope to make it to the KGB event as well =] You all rock!!
Will there be a reading in the Washington DC area?
Indeed there will be! We'll be in DC on Feb 5. I'll be posting the info soon.
