Oh man, Tina Fey is complete goodness. Comedy has been one of those areas that women have been excluded from (unless to be made the butt of the joke). Major happy rays towards Tina and the like for showing the world that hilarity is not gender biased!
I love Tina Fey so much (and 30 Rock is my favorite show right now on tv)! I saw that last night and it was best moment of the awards. Also I was really happy when Kate Winslet finally won...and then won again!
Love it! I needed that laugh this morning...yucky Mondays.
I have asked multiple times for transcripts when you post uncaptioned videos. I searched for this clip at nbc on the offchance that they supplied it (there is no way to get to NBC's own page with the above embed, it's either the video clip or nothing) and could not even find the clip at nbc let alone a transcript.
I am deaf. I would really enjoy being able to understand what the clips say, and I would really appreciate efforts to link to transcripts, or even for you guys to just SAY (honestly) that you looked for one and didn't find it. Even a fucking summary of what the thing says, since I know transcription is difficult to just sit down and do. Just some awareness, instead of continual erasure of the existence of deaf people.
Thanks.
Hi BEG- here's the transcript I found:
"I want to say thank you to the Hollywood Foreign Press. I'll always love the Hollywood Foreign Press and have all the Hollywood Foreign Press action figures. Thank you, Will Arnett, for that joke. But I want you to really know how lucky I am to have the year I've had this year and, if you ever start to feel too good about yourself, they have this thing called the Internet! You can find a lot of people there who don't like you! I'd like to address some of them now! BabsonLacrosse, you can suck it. DianeFan, you can suck it. Cougar Letter, you can really suck it 'cause you've been after me all year. And to my husband, Jeff, I love you. Thank you very much!"
Of course that doesn't really convey Fey's timing, (I imagine that's a problem with most transcripts and captioning, though) which was a lot of what made the bit funny--in particular there's a pause at the end when she says "And to my husband Jeff..."
Anyway, I'm just a commenter, but I'm sorry you have to deal with videos with no captions or transcripts. It's something I hadn't thought about myself but really should be common sense.
Thank you!
Thanks -- for me, the video said, "Not available in your area".
I'd also like transcripts or summaries, just because I often read this stuff somewhere where I can't really play video.
Apologies BEG, you're absolutely right.
She's one very funny girl! And WELL DESERVED.
I can't see the video or a link or anything, can someone provide the link?
Nvm...Found it.
The roommate might (will.) end me if I watch it without her, but after that clip I _have_ to see that 30 Rock saved on our DVR...
this was hilarious. Tina Fey is so awesome.
I know this is completely unrelated to feminism in any way, but did anyone else like Tracy Morgan's speech? I thought it was hilarious.
.... grrrr NBC is now on my makes-me-grumpy list as it's telling me I can't watch the clip from my location, probably meaning Australia not in their super-duper USA place... what's the point of posting something one the WORLD WIDE WEB and then limiting where you can see it? newspaper sites seem to do it too...
*mumber grumble*
She's a riot. After watching all the Oscar Grant videos, it's great to have a laugh.
Yes, because winning a Golden Globe means all your critics are small, for you are an Important Artist with Credibility.
Two words: Pia Zadora.

I don't get it.
I continually see feminists holding up Tina Fey as their "See? Women are funny!" (or whatever) example, and, well...Tina Fey isn't funny.
At all.
It also bothers me when this is done with Sarah Silverman. She reminds me of someone that watched a George Carlin show, and took from it: "Huh. Swearing a lot must be the key to comedy!" and totally didn't get that he's actually funny, swearing or not.
I really don't get all this love for Tina Fey. Absolutely don't. I don't find a single thing about her to be humorous.
This might shock you, but different people have different opinions about things. You don't think she's funny, some people do. It's all subjective. Apparently a lot of people do find her to be quite humorous.
Yeah, I think Tina is hilarious and have thought so for years. I have even seen her live and she was clearly the quickest one on stage.
Also, with Sarah Silverman, whenever people say that about her I always just feel like they don't get the joke.
Now if you get the joke and don't like it thats cool, but she is making fun of particular kinds of people (racists, the self-absorbed, people who tell you what you can can can't do) in pretty much everything she does. Who she is making fun of changes.
If you don't think she is funny, great. But she isn't just getting up there to say naughty words because she thought they would be funny. Sometimes she is just making fun of the notion of what she should and should not do, especially since she started really young and had to deal with everyone telling her that much more than any of the male comedians she came up with.
Oh, and I don't hold up Tina up as my "Women are funny" example, because they just straight up are. I hold her up when I want to show that women can be funnier than men.
See, that's just it. Sarah Silverman doesn't "get it". Like I said, it's like she tried to get all the style from Carlin, and not one ounce of the substance.
Lesson in life, get your own material, don't just try to be like someone else.
I'm sorry, but like I said, I find nothing funny about Tina Fey, and a lot of people agree. She was awful on SNL, her movies are garbage, there's nothing remarkable about her comedy, and I long for the day she's relegated to the "Wonder what happened to that former SNL castmember..." bin.
She just seems the type who finds herself much funnier than everyone else does.
