Fox News broadcasts a racist New Year's message

It looks like 2009 will be a very unchanged year for Fox News' bad habits.

On New Years Eve, Fox News Channel allowed folks to text in Happy New Years wishes to be scrolled at the bottom of the screen where news headlines are usually featured. One text I guess "slipped" through the screening process, where someone referenced to the racist "Barack the Magic Negro" song:

HAPPY NEW YEAR AND LET'S HOPE THE MAGIC NEGRO DOES A GOOD JOB. LOVE JEN AND JOHN C.

It still doesn't outdo the time they were doing a story about a South Asian scientist and actually made fun of his name. Yes, made fun of it, because it sounded like "shit" or "fuck" or something totally heelarious like that. It's like second grade.

But should I expect any more from the same crowd that was incapable of ever referring to Obama without including his middle name.

Well, well, well, isn't it FAUX NEWS we're talking about!

I'm so fucking sick of American media.

I expect nothing better from bigot douchebags like those on (and who like) Fox news.

Having that phrase be the new fad is convenience itself. Once the words "magic negro" exit someone's mouth, as it is sure to do, I know that that person does not matter. His or her opinion on anything, ever, is no longer valid. Everything about this person is instantly dismissible, and that's... that's just great. If only every person so ignorant would announce themselves with a catch phrase!

Way to be as bigoted as the people you are talking about. Being amused by a fad does not make a person an idiot

Perhaps not, but calling the president-elect a magic negro does.

"as bigoted as the people you are talking about"

Wow, really? Really truly? Because to my eyes, even comparing being a racist bigot with cutting people who talk racist shit out of your life is ridiculous. To me this just sounds more like "Isn't that REVERSE RACISM?"

Yes, The person who uses the words "magic negro" could have been making a statement that they feel the democratic party was using an african american candidate to make themselves appear more progressive and distance themselves from the White Bush, even though Obama's skin color does not predicatably affect his politics. That is a nuanced position to hold which is expressed through the satiric phrase "magic negro"

Now, assuming that HOWEVER someone uses a term, in whatever context, automatically makes them an idiot and unworthy of consideration, that seems very close-minded.

I feel like it they were going to do something like this "accidentally on purpose", wouldn't it have been more obvious and offensive? I mean, Fox isn't exactly secret about their contempt for Obama.

Remember how various Fox show hosts were howling with outrage over inflammatory remarks posted on progressive blogs -- by random commenting readers -- and how the blogs should be held responsible for those comments? Shoe's on the other foot now, guys.

I think that FOX News the RNC and other biggots like Rush Limbaugh should not be able to use the term, "magic negro". They just want to be able to say the word, "negro" and not have to be held accountable.
However; there is more of a history to this term. It was coined as a way to explain one of the various steriotypes of black people in american culture.

All who till now are assured, that Pushkin was not that the Ethiopian, not that the Negro, not that the Jew, I advise to visit in the Pushkin Museum on Prechistenka the new exhibition devoted by a family tree of Pushkin. There unique documents are presented, it is possible to track a sort, beginning from legendary Ratschi, the ancestor of many oldest Russian surnames who has arrived here, on Russian earth approximately 800 years ago. And our president is faster as simply pretext... (((
