Quick Hit Update: Arrests made in CA gang rape case
A week after I blogged about the the recent case of a lesbian being gang raped right outside of San Francisco, we find that most of the suspects have now been found and arrested.
Two of those in custody are 15 and 16 years old.

15 and 16 years old? Yep, what does that tell you, folks? We live in a patriarchal society that encourages men to take advantage of women's bodies and even go far as RAPE.

I'm glad they're off the streets, as a queer gal who'll be in the Bay area in just 2 weeks.

15 and 16 years old? Part of me is angry at them, of course, but part of me is angry at a society that would raise them to do something like this. It wasn't that long ago that I was sixteen and the thought of one of my guy friends doing something like that then - or now - makes me want to puke.
Either way, I hope they spend a long time in prison and then rot in hell.

I'm glad they got them. This is welcome news to read, especially on my own "anniversary". I hope they throw the book at them.
I hope this brings comfort to "Jane Doe" Richmond as well.

but... frankly, i shocked at the charges. it seems to be generally the police don't lay on heavy charges when the victim is GLBT. don't get me wrong - it makes me very happy and hopeful that the authorites will be taking GLBT issues more seriously and treat them with more respect - but i had assumed that the cops would just try for the bare minimum.
now we just have to hope that the DA REALLY tries, and doesn't just phone it in and let all of them off. people have to learn that GLBT people are REAL PEOPLE TOO, damnit.

I'm not sure I understand. It looks to me like they ARE charging them with some major stuff, particularly the ringleader: "arrested on suspicion of felony kidnapping to commit a sex crime, carjacking, rape, gang rape, as well as on suspicion of violating probation and committing felonies while on probation."
Is there more than that that someone could be charged with?
I think she meant that she was shocked that the police actually are laying heavy charges, given their past of going easier on criminals who commit crimes against those who are GLBT.
God I hate them but at the same time I can't see how two young guys who have their lives ahead of them would do something so disgusting and foul. But in our society the gay community is seen as less than and even women are seen as less than and it doesn't surprise me that two high schoolers would do this.
When will our society realize they're fucking up?
Yep, I knew it wouldn't be too difficult to find them. Now comes the really hard part. The trial. Without knowing anything about these youngsters, just given the demographics of this city, I'd say this is thick gang territory where drugs, poverty and parental negligence is a great factor in their psychological profiles.
