My guess is this person is around 13 years old and thinks he's the most clever dude ever.
I wish it were some thirteen-year-old, and we could forward it to his mom. Because if he does have a mom, there's a big Parenting=Fail right there. I realize it has to be difficult to raise boys who respect women in our patriarchal culture, but it can be done, I know some feminist teenage boys, including my stepson and my nephew.
Forward it to his Mom anyway. Even if he's 50 he still lives in her house.
This anti-feminist rant...whether female or male, yet another misogynist, patriarchal, ignorant/arrogant human being regardless of age, who has a lot to learn, if...capable of learning. What is this person, male or female, so afraid of??

Apparently capitlizing the first letter in a sentence is so last year. Looks like having spaces between sentences is as well.

I vote more anti-feminist mailbag. It lets me see the hilarious side of all this side.
In a largely patriarchal world where daily language is obviously sexist and women are considered secondary or second-class, this kind of vulgarity by a person, male or female, young or old, who doesn't know the first thing about feminism, reading more anti-feminist content just shows that there are people in our society who are afraid of equal rights for women (after all, the ERA never got passed by the Senate or Congress under Clinton and those before him, says more about the Conservatism of the United States in general, than not.
Reading more anti-feminist anger/hatred is like listening to pro-life people proselytyzing about abortion to women who believe in choice, not necessarily pro-abortion, just pro-choice. After a while, it just gets tired and not worth reading about or listening to.

Is it still trolling if you send a private email? I thought the key feature of trolling was the public spectacle of it. Hate mail wouldn't seem to have that (normally).
1/10, troll harder. Would have been a 0/10 but he gets a point for the last line being so tangential and scatter-brained.
Fairly obvious reek of troll clinging to this one. The stench appears to originate from the desperate-for-attention branch of the troll family tree. It's easily recognizeable by its distinct odor, which seems really foul at first but rapidly dwindles away to nothing when you ignore it.
I have to wonder how one arrives at the point where they are sending hateful mail to feminist websites.
I don't even mean the developmental angle.
Did this guy wake up one morning, decide he wanted to hate mail some mouthy women, and googled until he found Feministing?
Or did he somehow stumble across the website first, got his panties all twisted, and decided he must send some vile?
I'm not trying to imply it matters how he got to that point; I'm just curious about the series of events leading up to illogical acts.

Yeah, a troll -- but trolls usually have some wiff of truth to them. I'm sure it's a sexist ass who saw an article he didn't like (or even *she*) so they came up with some random, vile crap to send in, and were VERY proud of themselves.

Rachel, I know the feeling. Generally these kinds of emails are just humorous, clearly some ignorant fool who thinks he (or she?) will actually make us angry and therefore win some kind of silly battle fought over the Internet. But it was the "you deserved to be raped" comment that gave me chills. You're right--I really do hope he or she doesn't actually think that of anyone, or the person is much worse than the kind of anti-feminist we're used to dealing with.
Me too. I'm just not seeing the humor in someone who honestly seems to think women are just there for sex, no matter how he puts it.

These e-mails are always so trite and boring because as soon as I read the "anti-feminist mail bag" header, I can almost guarantee the e-mail contains one of the following: "bitch", "cunt", "Kitchen", "sandwhich", "rape", ad nauseum.
I propose the feministing challenge where we all take turns disecting and defeating anti-feminist arguments from people that actually use correst grammar, syntax, and punctuation and who propose (intelligent sounding) real arguments against feminism.

Sometimes it's okay to get a light-hearted laugh from some dolt who thinks they are being offensive. We get enough Srs Biz here, you know?
I agree. It's easy to pick on the fringe. But an actual well-presented anti-feminist argument would be more interesting to bring over to this site for deconstruction.

It's like y'all are implying we don't already do this. We do.
Generally the anti-feminist things featured on this site are so ridiculous that it encourages a unanimous collective response. Not just the hate-mail but the "this prominent male figure said this" articles are all pretty easily dismissed.
Now, it's a feminist site so it doesn't need to undermine itself, but it would gain a lot more prestige in my eyes if it brought some significantly challenging issues into the field of discussion instead of just feeding us things we all agree are horrible (i.e. this hate mail).
What about women and the draft? What about anti-choice (or pro-life, if you prefer) women who call themselves feminists? Do we have the right to take that designation away from them? What about...a million other issues that aren't as clearly defined as, "men sometimes say really awful things about women."
Agree completely. Would be a much better use of t'internet to respond to some emails that exhibit conflicting views, yet whose authors are of sound mind and capable of debate.
Are you actually criticizing this site for the caliber of their hate mail? Or ignoring the fact that this site spends a majority of its time on serious debate and serious issues with plenty of nuance every single day in multiple posts?
Have you never read any of the other posts, or are you an anti-feminist posing as a concern troll? Thanks for the advice on how to be sensible and get more prestige, but I think the editors of the site are doing a great job. On your site, be as serious and invite real debate in every single post if you like. And when people call you humorless and tell you you take everything too seriously, debate them on that issue, too.

is there any chance that emails that cross the line into threats or sexual harassment (which that one is) could be reported to anyone? or maybe even tracked back to the perp? just thinking of y'all and that most likely this site is not the only one they're trolling. just curious if there's any legal action of sorts that can be taken considering if a threat like that was said in a workplace (which for you this is that) it probably could be pursued legally. have a great weekend!

I mean, also I'm not sure how posting this helps foster feminist community--it sucks that the cost of creating such an online community comes with the price of your (the admins) having to read emails like these and maybe it is unfair for you to have bear this burden alone. But posting this drivel here just gives more attention to the asshats and takes time/attention/energy away from creating a community around causes besides just getting angry or somehow laughing off the irrelevant douchebaggery of random assholes.
But it can be very cathartic to be able to see and discuss this kind of stuff. I don't see the problem. The "Anti-feminist Mailbag!" subject line is quite large and obvious; if you prefer not to read these particular postings, it's easy to scroll on by.
I'm going to have to call Poe's Law either/or Troll on this one. It seems like it was intentionally sent in by a prankster to piss us off.
Yeah, but I think most trolls have a hint of truth behind them, at the very least. People don't send this kind of vitriol unless they mean it. They may not talk like this every day, but they probably wouldn't say such things if they weren't sexist to begin with.

I'm in the minority here, but I found the comments disturbing, not funny. I usually find the anti-feminist mailbag funny as they're so outrageous, but this one? Just slightly triggering and yeah...disturbing. I guess I just wasn't ready to read rape threats and experience that kind of hatred towards my sex today.

During a discussion in class about human evolution I made a comment that humans sometimes do not appear to have evolved all that much. I said that it was not difficult to find examples of people who are one at most two generations past knuckle dragging. Then there is this guy. lol

Do you girls (or guys) ever think that these posts, whether they are from legitimate emails or not, are only placed on this site by Jessica to invoke an emotional response within her readers?
There is no place, within civilized talk, for these comments to even be brought up. However, it is my belief, that this email was brought to attention to sensationalize a stereotype of how an anti-feminist, or even anti-Jessica, thinks and behaves. This email, if legitimate at all, was obviously a cheap ploy to extract a rise out of her. However, she took the liberty to cheapen it even more and get a rise out of everyone else.
Next time you receive garbage in your mailbox Jessica do what the rest of us do. Throw it out instead of hanging it up for the rest of us to smell.

I think it was pretty clear that this was being mocked, not given as an example of clear thinking dialogue.
