This is an oldie-but-goodie; Samantha Bee reflects on her discovery at the RNC that there's a new c-word that's not to be uttered. Transcript below the jump.
We went to the Xcel center, we were there for a long time. There was a distinct lack of energy, almost like the vitality of a man approaching his eighties. It felt like there was desiccated flesh in the air.
Man: This woman is qualified.
Samantha: Tell me about her qualifications.
Man: One, she's a beautiful lady.
It sapped the life out of us.
Samantha: You be Sarah Palin and I'll be her 17-year old daughter.
Woman: Bristol, you and I have always been able to openly discuss things -
Samantha: What do you want to talk to me about, I'm totally busy right now mommm, can you get out of my room?
Man: It's very inappropriate that Democrats have seized on the issue of Bristol's pregnancy...
Woman: That is a personal, that is very personal...
They had eradicated the word "choice" from their vocabulary.
Man: She said "No, it's a human being."
Samantha: She made the - I'm sorry what is - the decision, the decision...there's another word I'm looking for.
Samantha: It rhymes with - I think it rhymes with "voice."
I did not run into one person who did not share that opinion at the Xcel center that day.
Samantha: Every woman should have the right to - I'm sorry what's the word I'm looking for?
Everybody got the memo. We're not going to talk about choice anymore.
Samantha: We have a lot options, and you have to select one...there's a word I'm looking for, what is it...
Woman: Adoption.
Younger woman: I'm sure the family will be able to make the best decision for them.
Samantha: But they'll have the freedom to make that decision.
Woman: Freedom of choice? That's different than being pro-choice.
The c-word word used to be something else. Now it's choice.
Younger woman: Well, yes, but I don't think that the...I don't think that the decision...I think it should be...not...I think that...I think the family decision would be, uh, as how...yes, okay.
Everybody says "cunt" all the time now. Noooo biggie. But nobody's saying the word "choice."

Wow, I'm only a vagina and some beauty away from being a qualified GOP VP nominee. That's going on my resume.
Sigh. No, 'pro-choice' is not different from 'freedom of choice'.
I love it... as soon as everyone started criticizing Sarah Palin, the Republicans cried "SEXISM!" Meanwhile, many of them seem to think that her looks and charm are her biggest qualifications...and THAT'S not sexist? I can't stand the woman or anything she believes in... but the Republican party doesn't seem to value her for anything other than the fact that her charms might win people over (or so they thought...)
Wife-beater mentality:
"You disrespected MY woman, I'm gonna' kick yer ass!"
"I'll raise a hand to my wife if I want to! It's in the bible!"
republicans are eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeevil
"I'm sure I'm not the only male in America who, when Palin dropped her first wink, sat up a little straighter on the couch and said, "Hey, I think she just winked at me." And her smile. By the end, when she clearly knew she was doing well, it was so sparkling it was almost mesmerizing. It sent little starbursts through the screen and ricocheting around the living rooms of America. This is a quality that can't be learned; it's either something you have or you don't, and man, she's got it." Rich Lowry, National Review, America's Hooters Girl's biggest supporter.

The South Dakota Campaign for Healthy Families (a pro-choice group) actually used this strategy to convince more moderate/right thinking individuals to vote no on the abortion ban there. Most of their advertisements didn't use the word "choice"--they used the word "decision." And it wasn't a woman's decision either, it was a "family decision" or a "doctor's decision." Apparently the word "choice" is too politicized and stigmatized to convince anyone that choice is a good thing.
But hey, the strategy worked and the abortion ban in SD was defeated. Is it really such a bad thing to change rhetoric?
Of course, since another strategy was never tried, there's really no proof the Healthy Families' strategy was the reason the ban was defeated. I would suggest (and no one ever believes me on this) that South Dakotans might just be mostly pro-choice.
This was the first time abortion's been fought over in SD?
I love how the woman at the end looked like her brain was going to explode just before she conceded.
KEY-RHIST! Republicans are worthless bags of illogic. Female Republicans make me 10-times angrier than male Republicans do. What the hell is goin’ on with that one? Stockholm syndrome?
