Anti-choice women paint Obama as silent western villain

All he needs is a an evil mustache and the baby carriage tied to the tracks.

Apparently, the Susan B. Anthony List (basically the antithesis of the fabulous Emily's List) have been sending out over a half-million these mailers to anti-choice supporters in Ohio, Minnesota, Michigan, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, New Mexico, and Colorado.

I love how they say "vote for a team that values life" when Palin recently expressed her support (and her belief of John McCain's support) for the Republican Party Platform's anti-choice principles, which seek a constitutional amendment banning all abortion with no exceptions in cases of rape, incest or to save the life of the woman.

How 'bout that.

Don't you know a zygote trumps a fully grown woman? It's totally a game of rock-paper-scissors.

The irony is that all the manufacturing and transportation jobs have disappeared from the battleground states (as the bleak landscape implies), so the apparently empty stroller is in no danger of being hit by a train any time soon.

In fact, that's my new slogan: SAVE CRAPPY STROLLERS FROM EXPOSURE TO THE ELEMENTS! MCCAIN/PALIN '08!

Leave it to pro-lifers to again equate potential life with actual life and to value fetal life (and even potential fetal life) over actual women. But Obama's the one we're supposed to be afraid of, Pff.

This only goes along with all the other names that have been thrown at him. Socialist, terrorist, "baby" killer, etc.

The sad part is, as Sarah pointed out, even if they were to abolish abortions, all that's going to do is risk women's lives, so how is this mindset "Pro-life?" Not to mention, if children were given up for adoption, what are the chances they will be treated well? And then, are they going to help the woman who decides to keep them, considering the GOP is all about getting rid of "welfare"?

None of the values of the right are pro-life in the least!

They put similar flyers on our cars while we were in church yesterday, with quotes from Sarah Palin about protecting all human life. Yet she, and the Republican party, are for the death penalty? Someone needs to establish a Venn diagram for the Republicans explaining what the words "all human life" mean. It was the first time the lies coming from the McCain campaign really got to me. I wanted to pull the flyers off of all of the cars, but I don't think it was the first or last time people have heard this high-level hypocrisy coming out of the GOP ticket; if people haven't been smart enough to see through it by now, my temper tantrum in the parking lot wasn't going to make it happen.

For real! Women obviously aren't included in the definition, since there is routinely more respect for and importance placed on embryos and fetuses than the women carrying them.

Some crisis pregnancy group just set up in the middle of my campus today with a fake cemetery full of miniature crosses and are handing out leaflets about Obama being "anti-life". If I didn't have a chemistry exam this afternoon I would be out there to counter...maybe I will, I'm reading feminist blogs instead of studying anyways!

I don't know that there's any call to malign adoptive parents.

I think that comment might've been meant in a different spirit.

Anti-choicers give the impression that there's an immediate, loving, permanent home for every baby. Unfortunately, babies (especially African-American, special needs, drug-exposed babies) sometimes aren't adopted and get stuck in the foster system for years.

Once at my clinic, a (black) patient went up to a (white, female) protester and asked "Will you adopt this baby?". The protester said "Oh I can't.. I have kids of my own and I couldn't give another child the love it deserves...". I just though 'Emotional/reality disconnect much, Mrs. Protester?'.

I think we'd all agree that the vast majority of adoptive parents are great people who provide wonderful homes.

Unborn babies are counting on my vote? I'd like to see an unborn baby count on anything.

You know, not even my staunch Catholic Pro-Life friend goes so far as to let a woman die for her unborn child. We had that discussion a few days back. It's nice to see that it's an issue we can talk about even though we disagree.

There were already protections in Illinois for fetuses who survived abortions. So wouldn't any testimony about fetuses being left in "supply closets" be either lies or a violation of existing law? I'm skeptical about all this "born alive" stuff anyway. If anti-choicers want me to believe that abortion is gruesome, then what fetus or embryo is surviving abortion?

yeah, if there were a BABY in the stroller, I'd move it. Are these people aware that fetuses don't regularly go out in strollers? Or is the pregnant woman supposed to fit in the stroller as well?

"If anti-choicers want me to believe that abortion is gruesome, then what fetus or embryo is surviving abortion?"

Obviously an embryo cannot survive abortion. Depending on the method used, such as simple induction, it is possible for a fetus to come out of the womb intact. Depending how far along the pregnancy is, it is possible to be alive for a short time without care. Given intensive care, it is possible to survive outside the womb at just under 22 weeks gestation.

That's not politics or religion, it's simply documented medical fact. That is why some people who say they are for choice, or some laws allow for abortion, only up to some period the fetus is considered viable, say, the second trimester. Because of medical technology, this date is becoming earlier. There are methods a doctor wishing to assure a successful procedure may use. To avoid this "born alive" debate, they should.

I am pro-choice, but arrived at that position after looking at both sides of the issue, including being raised in and belonging to a Fundamentalist denomination until 24, going to nursing school, and having a wife who was ashamed of her abortions.

the real question is, do mccain supporters who reject the right to choose instead bring a baby to full term, and leave it on railroad tracks to die? which is worse, eliminating a fetus or bringing a baby into the world, only to despise it later?
