Pregnant and Poehler

Can we just talk about how much I'm been crushing on Amy P. lately? First she got a spot on one of the funniest shows on television, The Office. Then she got her own TV show--all the plans still in the works. Meanwhile she's been acting, rapping, and swinging that big ol' pregnant belly all over the stage with wild, unencumbered abandon. She makes being pregnant look like some serious fun.

And as if that wasn't enough, I've just discovered that she's co-producing this show, Smart Girls at the Party, "a fresh and wholly original digital series that celebrates young girls who are changing the world by being themselves. The show - Smart Girls at the Party - aims to help girls find confidence in their own aspirations and talents, and to prove that you don't have to be famous to be interesting."

My new dream dinner party just become Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Rachel Maddow, and a whole gaggle of feministing-ers.

I love that she didn't disappear for nine months like other pregnant celebrities do.

I totes love Amy Poehler - she's hilarious and awesome. Reminds me a bit of Samantha Bee who was still on the Daily Show when she was super preggers (and came back only a couple months after giving birth) - yay for pregnant women busting a move!

Remember when Lucille Ball was pregnant, and she had to get special approval from religious figures in order to write it into the show? And when she got that permission she had to compromise by promising not to say the word "pregnant" When Poehler and Bee are pregnant, and on TV, and talk about it, and be funny, and have careers, well, that is pretty rad.

Thanks for posting something about this. I just loved seeing Amy up there rapping on weekend update Saturday! She did such a great job. I've watched the clip about 5 times and counting.
This week at my job I'm gearing up for the 30th anniversary of the Pregnancy Discrimination Act and while there is still pregnancy discrimination, I think it's a huge deal on a societal level that women like Amy, Samantha Bee and Angela Kinsey (from the office) have been on their tv shows visibly, heavily pregnant.
In related news, I am loving all of the strong female comedians these days. I can't wait for "30 Rock" to start back up again next week! Yay Tina Fey!

I so want to be at your same dinner party!

I'm just so happy that after years and years of laughing at Amy Poehler on Upright Citizen's Brigade or Wet Hot American Summer or her dozens of other brilliant bit parts, she's finally hit the big time with feature films and SNL. She's a shining light on SNL that will be sorely missed, but I have no doubt whatever she does in the future will be so much better.

Add Sarah Haskings to that imaginary dinner party and it would be perfect.

@mary.menville: My MIL still cringes every time someone says "pregnant". She says it is crude, and that we should say, "expecting". *snort* And for what it's worth, she's only 54.
