I'm pretty amazed that in all of ten minutes someone actually made a great video summary of the debate.

Is it just me, or did Palin's expressions just seem over-the-top corny?

Joe Biden: "Look, let's talk about the maverick John McCain is..."

I need to write that man a thank you card.

Darn right it was one heckuva debate. You can be doggone sure I'm not voting for Palin!

Seriously... a "shout out?" Did she think she was on TRL?

She's so obviously fake, and she was so obviously reciting highly rehearsed pre-written answers (which is why she announced she would answer the questions she wanted to answer, not the questions that were asked), and she was so clearly playing the "folksy" thing to the hilt, I was actually embarassed for her, even though I can't stand her.

I want to give Biden a hug! He was awesome, dignified, intelligent, and he handled Palin's insensitive suggestion that only women worry about their kids PERFECTLY. I wish they had tackled women's issues, since he co-authored VAWA, and the whole Wasilla rape victims being charged for their rape kits, and her not approving of abortion even in cases of rape or incest...he could have torn her apart. But then of course he would have been labeled a bully and a sexist, even though he would have been making very valid points about her politics, which had nothing to do with her being a woman...Argh.

Alright, that does it. I am officially a Joe Biden fan.

Also, I declare a 1 year moratorium on the word "marverick" - who's with me?

[0+] Author Profile Page mayfly said:

Gah, "maverick" is the word I was going for there...

You and I think her corny, my co-worker liked her. A lot of people don't see to listen to the actual words that come out of their mouths, they're only absorbing their personality, and her personality comes across as rather warm and welcoming (and I despise her politics, by the way). The fact is, she may be the next Reagan, charming her way into office without any substance at all (although I am probably doing a disservice to Reagan here).

I didn't catch her pronunciation of "nucular" the first time...classic. Oh, and kid_lightning, I'd like to sign your thank-you card too if you don't mind :)

I can't take another 8 years of the 'word' nuCULAR. i just can't.

I especially liked how they edited the clips to show Biden and Ifill both correcting Palin on how to pronounce "nuclear".

I've never posted here before, but I felt so compelled to share this. I literally did not hear a word of what was said after Palin brought up Biden's wife and said "god bless her, her reward is in heaven."

How completely inappropriate.

It cracked me up how the worm went down sharply every time Palin mentioned soccer moms or hockey moms. Old meme?

"Maverick he is NOT" --hahaha I love Biden after seeing this. Also, that INTENSE look at the camera when he was talking about how dangerous Cheney has been -- whoa. I sense some hatred.

I just cannot fathom how anybody could like Palin after seeing that. Dare I say, she reminds me a bit of Rachael Ray with her trademark sayings and all of the cutesiness - the winks and stuff. It's very unsettling, and seems very unnecessary to me. Maybe even degrading. I hate to think that this woman could hold the second most important position in the country, and she would be "representing" all American women. Because I think that's exactly how other politicians would view it. I could see them saying, "Oh, well Palin's a woman and she's the VP, so ALL women should support her for getting so far."

Yuck. Barf.

I do not think she knew what she was talking about because she was not even answering the questions that the mediator was asking, she was making up her own questions and then asnwering them, and then expecting biden to answer as well...jeez!

I was actually surprised that some people were saying afterwards that this was a better debate than the presidential debate because I thought Palin did not answer half of the questions. Last time I checked, that is how a debate works, but I guess when everything is strictly scripted because your own party doesn't have faith in you that is the result. Out of the four (Obama, Biden, McCain, Palin) she is the only one who I had trouble staying focused on. My friend and I both mentioned that we had "blanked out" during a couple of her responses so I made more of an effort to concentrate on them and realized it was because she used a lot of catch phrases and babble but really said very little. By the way, Taisa Marie,I assure you that you are not the only one to find her "over the top corny". If she dropped one more "g" from the end of a word I was going to pull my hair out. During her "shout out" I actually looked at the person I was with and asked "What are we watching?" The weirdest moment of the night for me, though, was when Biden and Palin "agreed" on gay rights and the most irritating was when Palin implied that she has "gay friends or family" which reminded me of the old "I'm not racist I have a black friend" argument.

She made me think of an actress. An over-the-top one. You really could tell that she was trying to lay it on thick to appeal to what she believes to be the "average, middle-class American." I personally find it as a bit of an insult that she thinks that the best way to appeal to the working American is to talk and act like that. Gosh, do any of us remember when INTELLIGENT conversation was used by BOTH candidates in a debate? Okay, I guess not, but at least the vocabulary wasn't dumbed down so that us poor little stupid middle-class people can understand it. Honestly, I think that McCain's worst decision was choosing Palin for his running mate simply because she was a woman (and a young, attractive mother). I've heard friends say that they might have voted for him if not for Palin.

@ chewey: Oh my god, I know! Firstly, Palin, keep your fucking fundamentalism to yourself; and also, don't educators deserve a reward here on the earth, you know, before they get old and kick the bucket?

Another of the most frustrating moments of this debate was when she asked everyone to go to a soccer game and ask the soccer moms about the economy, and kept referring to "Joe Six-Pack." Yeah, thanks for characterizing the typical struggling American as WHITE AND SUBURBAN. If you really wanna know about how bad some people have it 'cause of these past two terms, go take a look at the projects. How about the families who can't afford to sign their kids up for fucking soccer lessons? How about the people who aren't a part of some cute suburban family at all? How about the single moms and dads? How about the foster kids? How about the couples without any kids? HOW ABOUT THE INDIVIDUALS?

Word, Judith.
