This is kind of fun: Internet circa 2001

In honor of Google's 10th birthday, they have made their oldest available archive from 2001 available once again. So go here, google yourself, and find out if you had an internet presence way back at the beginning of this century.
One fun prepost-debate exercise: google all four of the nominees on the two presidential tickets. Can you guess which one of the candidates had no internet presence in 2001?

Okay...I feel all full of win and awesome, now. Googleing my full name back in the day brings up a short story I wrote years ago as the first hit!
Go 22 year old me!
I won an essay contest sponsored by the Society of Plastics Engineers (it was extra credit for AP Physics). Results are still there!
THAT IS AWESOME! Holy crap, back to the days of small-town-feminist-rockstardom (in my own mind). What a great way to remember some great old times. Thanks!
Not to brag but I will and say that I showed up on 12 pages compared with Palin's 0 and I was just a in high school at the time. Wasn't Palin mayor until 2002? How is she not mentioned anywhere online? My town at that time had 30,000 residents compared to 6,000 in Wasilla but she's not mentioned online as the mayor but I am in my town for starting a poetry club at school, having a high GPA when I graduated, and for running in local 10ks? ... Okay, further investigation on the old google site has led me to conclude that the Wasila newspaper was not online and that's why she's not found.
I showed up within the first 10 results, and I was TEN YEARS OLD at the time. It was for a math competition, but I am from the backwoods of VT and I was in elementary school...
Man, I would be a better VP candidate than Sarah Palin... and not just because I was on the internet in 2001.
No Palin - but SJP comes up 5 down!
YAY GOOGLE! They do the coolest things.
Also, you know what's really interesting? Searching "iPod" in 2001 yields a mere 1,300 results. Searching "iPod" today? 49,000,000 results. CRAZY.
actually if you type "wasilla sarah palin", it'll have some entries "for ya" (palin speak).
This made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. As everyone's been talking about their "click" moments in terms of when they knew they were a feminist, I was reminded of my "click" year when I googled myself- the very first hit when I used my common nickname documented my arrival on my undergrad's scene as an official feminist hellraiser- the second search, using my full name, an article about a Natioanl Young Womyn's Day of Action rally I spoke at the same year. Oh thank you for putting this up! ~sigh~
This is pretty awesome! I mean, I actually came up twice, even though I was only 16 at the time. woohoo!
The official state of Iowa house and senate records came up from when I was able to visit with a bunch of other kids because we won a writing contest.
Yep, all the way back in 2000 I got first place because I decided to "Write Women Back Into History." Badass.
I am on there - the 7th hit of my name is actually me! I was on earlier than that - I remember my mom doing a search on my name in the mid 90s and coming up with articles I wrote for the college paper.
