For those of you who might be celebrating the Jewish New Year right now, L'Shana Tova!
Today is the second day of the Jewish holiday Rosh Hashanah, which marks the beginning of the Jewish New Year and a time of repentance, celebration and reflection. These are considered the Jewish High Holy Days, the most important religious days of the year. Rosh Hashanah begins a ten day period which is concluded with Yom Kippur, a day of fasting and asking for forgiveness for the new year.
Also, the apples and honey photo is because it's a tradition during this holiday to eat apples and honey to ensure that you have a sweet New Year.
Update: Cecelia reminded me that Ramadan, a Muslim month long festival and fast, also ended this week. The last day was September 30th, when Muslim's celebrate Eid ul-Fitr. Try this website for more information about Ramadan customs and traditions.

Yay... happy new year, here's some food poisoning...
Thanks, Miriam! Shana Tova!
Thanks, Miriam! I'm celebrating by...working. Hmm. But as I told my grandmother, I'm totally in temple in spirit :)
Happy New Year!
Today is also a Muslim Holiday ~ Eid ul-Fitr (??? ?????) or The Celebration of the Feast. This is the holiday celebrating the end of Ramadan where you fast from sun up to sun down for a month.
The Arabic writing did not come out where the question marks are at - darn it! :-(
Shana Tova and Chag Sameach everyone!
Thank you, Miriam, and L'Shana Tova to you, too.
However, at the risk of sounding like your Jewish mother here, it would be nice of you or other Feministingers to wish our wonderful Muslim sisters an 'Eid Mubarek, as well. We should not forget them, especially in these times, and especially as progressive, inclusive feminists.
YAY EID MUBARAK!!!! and ROSH HASHANAH!!!
happy new year. dont forget that the holiday is also about the creation of man and the days of awe in which you lookback and think about what you need to improve on as a person.
Apples and honey sounds delicious. I think I have to get some apples when I go to the grocery tonight.
Eid Mubarak and Chag Sameach everyone! :)
Shana tova everyone! Let's hope 5769 brings huge strides in race/class/gender equality and acceptance. Uh, and that's 5769 in the Hebrew calendar...not the regular one. I'm not waiting 3761 years for my rights, thanks. :)
Thank you so much, Miriam, and the same to you and all of the ladies of Feministing!
L'shana tova! Welcome to '69...
aaaaand while we are being inclusive. a very happy navratri to all as well.
aaaaand while we are being inclusive, let's not forget a very happy navratri to all as well.
oops posted before i was done, sorry
Well, I'm late. But Shana Tova to everyone any how!
And just what the hell does this have to do with feminism?
For some reason I get the feeling that this post is saying that Jews and Muslims are to be respected but Christians are to be looked down on. Gee! I wonder why that is? Could it be because I have seen Feministing (and other feminist websites)trash Christians numerous times? Yep! I'm thinking that could be it.
And don't you just love how feminist make no mention at all at how bad Muslim culture treats women as nothing but trash? I've heard of many cases of women in Europe being raped because the Muslim men did not like how she was dressed, yet no mention of it on any of the major feminist websites.
