National Stonewall Democrats set up a page on ActBlue specifically for the trans community and its allies to donate to Barack Obama. It's exciting in so many ways: for a historically gay and lesbian organization to do something so tangible for the trans community, to help make visibile the trans community and its allies, both within the LGBT community and on the national stage, and to raise money for the only presidential candidate who will help set a tone of tolerance and non-discimination toward trans people and their families.
I'm excited. Be excited with me. If you're a supporter of Barack Obama already, or a trans person and Democrat, or an ally, friend, or family member of a trans person, this is a great way to stand up and be counted: no matter how small the donation, it's the number of donors that matters most. Help make the trans community visible politically.

please. i'm sorry, but that's bullshit. while obama is certainly 'friendlier' to trans and other queers than mccain, it's relative. obama is no champion of the rights of the queer community. He is anti gay marriage (but not in the positive "we don't want to be heteronormative" way), and is against a trans-inclusive ENDA. how is that setting a tone of non-discrimination?

**help** set a tone of tolerance. not full on embrace the trans community. not personally take up the flag of a trans-inclusive ENDA. he wants to see same-sex couples afforded the same rights, even if it's not called marriage.
you want a president who's gung-ho for queer/trans rights, please don't hold your breath, but Obama, *in my opinion,* is the best choice we have this election cycle. & the more he knows that he's got trans dollars backing him, the more attention he'll pay to us.

If you were to look back through democratic debates, and watch each candidates answers, you would see that the only person who really stood for equal rights (marriage, etc...) for all people was Dennis Kucinich. Obama even stated that he did not support gay marriage, but rather a civil union. Kucinich on the other hand was the only one to say that he supported "traditional" marriage.

If someone really supported full gay/trans rights, wouldn't he support them on every level?
Yes, &it's entirely pathetic that no candidate who embraces federal same-sex marriage can have a shot at the presidency right now.
