The iGrope?

It doesn't look much like a breast, but apparently this new application for the iPhone lets users simulate touching a boob. (If your boob was two-dimensional and malleable like a mofo.) You can also find the simulation here.
It never fails to amaze me how fascinating people find breasts - especially breasts that you can change the size, shape, and firmness of with the click of a mouse. Ick.

Really? It doesn't amaze me. I understand completely. Although this thing is... creepy. It's floppy like a big water balloon! Or a jellyfish left dying on the shore.
And speaking of balloons... see what happens when you press "up" until you can't go "up" anymore. Hee. OR EVEN BETTER: press "tab" and THEN do that.
I cant even believe that i went to look at that, but did anyone else notice that one of the commands was called 'enbodied' and if you clicked the tab button the head of the 'woman' disappeared!! what the fuck is that?!!
Whiskey. Tango. Foxtrot.
Yeah, IPhone touch screen is awesome. However, that sort of application could have been used on many other objects. Why breasts?
Yay disembodied parts. I love it when women end up as simply an outline.
My first thought was "do these computer scientists even know what a breast looks like?"
Then, of course, I started to consider what a weird idea it is.
Personally, I like breasts, but they can only ever be as beautiful as the woman they're a part of.
Cheesy, perhaps, but that's how I roll.
this is the dumbest thing that i have ever heard. I mean really, boobs on a cell phone, but dont worry, the only guys who find this amazing are the ones who cant get a women. who knows maybe if they grew up a little they might see a real boob.
I don't understand why the fuck guys are obsessed with breasts. I'm like, get the fuck over it.
It never fails to amaze me how fascinating people find breasts -

They're great.

That's just wierd.
Yah totally, B.T.P., and then har b.f. was like what's yar prahblem?, and I was all like oeh, my gaaahd! what the fuck is YAR prahblem???!!! Thar oenly. boooeebs. Jeesus. Uhhh.
Couldn't this be used for positive purposes, such as teaching women how to self-examine for breast cancer, or teaching men how to self-examine for testicular cancer?
What...you mean YOUR boobs aren't just sack full of jelly?!
I mean, I am also fascinated by breasts, but I think the word you're looking for is "fixated".
Couldn't this be used for positive purposes, such as teaching women how to self-examine for breast cancer, or teaching men how to self-examine for testicular cancer?
Genuine first reaction:
"Oh, now that's just sad."
Second reaction:
There wasn't one, actually. I stand by my first.
especially breasts that you can change the size, shape, and firmness of with the click of a mouse.
Yeah, you'd think that people who are inclined to like breasts would prefer real ones, but apparently water balloons are now extremely sexy.
It's objectification but it's not sexist.
sexism, n.
Discrimination based on gender, especially discrimination against women.
Attitudes, conditions, or behaviors that promote stereotyping of social roles based on gender.
I think objectification is a-ok, it's done to men, it's done to women, lots of people of both sexes like to be objectified by their lovers in bed from time to time. Honestly, it's a software toy. It's a boob on a screen. There's nothing to be offended by.
Oh, and this is a minor thing but you don't change anything on an iPhone or iPod Touch with "the click of a mouse". There's no mouse. You use your fingers.
This is weird. But I don't see any significant reason to have a problem with it. I think with many "adult body part" products, it's up to the user whether it will be used harmlessly or be a reinforcement of objectifying ideals. I mean, I definitely know tons of enlightened, feminist-educated and sensitive people both male and female who could get a good laugh out of this after a few beers and come away from it no worse.

My boobs do not move like that! I don't think any woman's boobs move like that!
If you're going to make a boob-feel application, at least do it with realistic boobs. Not something that moves like a water balloon rolling on the ground.
Couldn't this be used for positive purposes, such as teaching women how to self-examine for breast cancer, or teaching men how to self-examine for testicular cancer?
Well, seeing as how this particular program doesn’t simulate the consistency of a real breast at all (to paraphrase BROWN TRASH: boobs aren't just sack full of jelly!), I’d say no. It only has a side view as well, which doesn’t lend itself to teaching women how to do a thorough self-examination. Plus, part of a self-breast exam is how you place and move your fingers to maximize your chances of finding anomalies and you aren’t going to get that from a mouse and pointer. And, I think it kind of defeats the purpose of self-examination to practice on a computer instead of yourself.
FYI, all tits move differently depending on the fat and breast tissue content of the tit being assessed. mine kinda move like jello (more fat, less breast tissue). that's what's great about them, they're all different, fun to play with, and can even feed babies if you choose!
tits totally fascinate me!
@livinginthefridge - i would say that you should maybe distinguish public objectification from what goes on in the bedroom. cause women are definitely publicly objectified FAR more often then men. all you gotta do is look at advertising to see that. and i believe that's a facet of sexism because when women are constantly objectified on such a public/societal level it definitely "promote[s] stereotyping of social roles based on gender."
on a separate note, i realized that if you decrease firmness and increase size, it starts to look kinda like a flaccid dick that you can lift up and let fall, etc.
I think objectification is a-ok, it's done to men, it's done to women, lots of people of both sexes like to be objectified by their lovers in bed from time to time. Honestly, it's a software toy. It's a boob on a screen.
First, you are conflating sexual attraction between to lovers and objectification, they are not the same thing. Also, men may be occasionally objectified, yes, but that does not take away from the impact of the constant objectification and sexualization of women and girls.
From the Feminism 101 website (because they do a better job explaining it than I do):
“Women are universally viewed as the Other across all cultures, a role which is both externally imposed and internalized, and which means that women are generally not truly regarded as fully human.”
The continual objectification of women and girls perpetuates this othering. These things don’t happen in a vacuum, taken as a whole, they make HUGE impact on how women and girls are regarded and treated by society.
Please read up on the objectification of women and girls before attempting to explain it to others as you don’t seem to understand what it is or it’s impact on society.
@ShelbyWoo...i guess we posted at the same time.
you said it better than i could.
I found this decently fun as a random physics simulator, not related to breasts at all. Actually, I think there's a lot more development potential with penises than breasts in this area.
I don't really see how someone can get too mad at this. The type of person over the age of 15 who would add this to their phone probably has a sad life and hasn't ever really seen a boob outside of internet porn or TV.
I found this decently fun as a random physics simulator, not related to breasts at all.
Totally. It is very cool and fun to play with. I can’t imagine why they wouldn’t just call it as a physics simulator with some cool name. What was the point of objectifying and disembodying women with it as well?
Pamela Vee: Even if it were only 15 year olds downloading it, it doesn't excuse the objectification and disembodiment of women.
I have to admit, I had trouble being offended by this because I was laughing too hard.
I never realized breasts start vibrating when they get too hard (seriously, try it). Good to know what to expect if I ever get pregnant (yeah, right).
Um, how desperate and creepy do you have to be to use this? I like boobs and all, but this isn't really a replacement.
Come on, I think we are over-reacting here a little. This doesn't seem like much. And I have no idea why guys like boobs so much but thank goodness they do.
Why should anyone be thankful that guys like boobs?
ShelbyWoo, I'm just saying it's pretty pathetic and I can't see and reasonable adult male having it on his phone. Poor loser.
Whatever.
It's silly, but I get the idea it's meant as a joke rather than some sort of sex toy, and even if it were, I still wouldn't care. It's harmless.
I like boobs. They're bouncy. I play with my own frequently.
I don't know about you all but this is a very poor representation of my boobs. They don't do that?
Ok, fake jelly breast simulation is totally strange, bizaro and weird. Either the programers don't know what a real breast is like, or don't care what a real breast is like. Which ever it is, fondeling simulated breasts on an i-phone is just this side of groping people.
I think this is hilarious. I can't actually see apple comming out with this. Is this a end-user generated applicantion or was it put out by apple?
as to the question as to why men like breast I can only conclude that its a socially defined indincator of sexual desirablity originally based on perceptions of fertitily; much like large the large penis (feet, calves) or the resurgent badonkadonk.
It's not whether or not we are offended that matters most. It's why.
Let's look at the flip side.
As it stands, our culture does not take so much notice of the idea that women can sexually objectify men.
But the idea of women FINANCIALLY objectifying men will generally spark a lot of passionate debate and discussion.
As Paul tells from the male perspective:
"as to the question as to why men like breast I can only conclude that its a socially defined indicator of sexual desirablity originally based on perceptions of fertitily; much like large the large penis (feet, calves) or the resurgent badonkadonk."
The flip side is that in general, women do not look for indicators of fertility in males.
They may look for indicators of health, but the most important is status (of which money, height, social class can define).
This is why we hear pretty loudly from men how they feel when they are being judged on their wallet or the type of job they have. Many a song warns about the gold digger, the woman who only care about the money. And ask short men if they feel that they have less of an edge in dating.
So I'd honestly like to see the response if we had an ipod application where we objectify men in the way that most offends them. (I guess it's harder to do, but I'm sure someone with a good imagination could come up with it).
Maybe a game where you start of with a short man and you progress thru the game he becomes taller and instead of points given out, there are cars and money, etc. You win when he morphs into the tall, rich guy.
How many of us don't care either way--it's just a stupid/fun/harmless application? How many of us are only pissed about women being sexually objectified? How many of us would protest against men's objectification? How many of us are disgusted with both?
Wait...those are boobs? I thought that was the reflection! Oh dear.
Hee! It's fun making it as soft (flacid) as it will go and poking it. Seriously, though ... the good news is it shows that different women have different breasts (size, nipple placement, etc.) and that's about it. The bad news is it's objectifying, the woman has no face and there's an option of giving her no head, the default "small" breast is NOT small, the woman is really skinny, even when her boobs get huge, it plays up the idea that women's bodies are pulic property for men to play with and if you make it too hard it looks like her boobs are going to pop and the nipple doesn't appear to be attached to the breast.
But...boobs don't move like that. I'm so confused and incredibly creeped out.
I guess that explains why so many men think that squeezing, pressing on, and pinching breasts is oh so erotic. Or maybe it's erotic for them, but it certainly isn't for me.
