I will say that the moment I clicked on this link, I had a moment of "oh gosh this is going to be sexist..." Honestly, it is Saturday Night Live and I might be giving them an easy out, but this really did make me laugh my ass off. And while we have consistently pointed out the sexism that both Clinton and Palin have faced in the media, I think having it pointed out by McCain advisers is laughable. Moreso, when her argument for why it is sexist isn't very, dare I say, substantive.
OMG! Really? How about-the substance that is Sarah Palin is filled with very sexist ideas of what is considered an electable woman? Now that is sexist. Pointing out the hypocrisy of Republicans decrying sexism now as opposed to using it virulently during Clinton's campaign, well that is just funny. In that depressing way.
Thanks to Amy for the link.

This is not sexist. It's pointing out the general weaknesses of both political figures. The whole "hilary clinton just didn't want it enough" was clearly a shot at what is seen as hilary's blind ambition.
Let's all go back and look at movies of Will Farrell's impersonations of Pres bush in 2000. Those were simply BRUTAL (and I loved every one of them). They weren't sexist against dudes, they were simply pointing out the general weaknesses of hte candidate.
Wouldn't dismissing someone for having different views be "viewist," not sexist? (Yay for making up words!)
Perhaps if Palin actually spoke candidly wih reporters then there might be some substance to discuss. All she's offering is tired jokes, proven lies, and Republican rhetoric. If she wants to be thought of as a serious candidate, then perhaps she should quit hiding and act like one.
"Sexist in the sense that just because Sarah Palin has different views than Hillary Clinton does not mean she lacks substance"
How is that sexist? That would imply that Hillary Clinton is a man, that sounds sexist.
It's so weak of them to try to say attacks made on a woman in comparison to another woman, by two women is sexist.
GAH! So a member of the McCAIN camp (twitch) is going to tell ME, woman and feminist, how a skit written by two women, about two women, performed by two women is sexist?!?!?
I get that women can say sexist things, but this just aint it. And for the record, this skit was the FUNNIEST thing I've seen since this election began. I marry Tina Fey every night in my dreams.
"Viewest." I like that.
What substance does Sarah Palin have? If she has any, the campaign certainly isn't encouraging her to display it. She's simply a puppet of the McCain campaign. She's like a tape recorder filled with 8 years of Bush talking points. The fact that I stated that isn't sexist. The fact that it's true is sexist.
Tara K. OMG me too! I heart Tina Fey.
Substance? Hmm...I can think of a a substance she's full of.
This skit owns. It drives me off the wall when now that the GOP has finally realized sexism is real, they have no clue how to actually recognize it.
Something else that owned hard was about 15 minutes ago in the student lounge when I saw Stephen Colbert doing "The Word." "We should know what sexism is! We've been feminist for about...two weeks now!" (Subtitle: "Longer than Palin has.")
LOL@Suki
But just as "Clinton" says in the video, "I'm amazed that sexism is something that they suddenly want to discuss." The GOP is so full of it. They attack Hillary Clinton on all sides for being a woman (they had view criticisms of her actual policies and opted instead to make fun of her laugh, call her a harpy and be grossed out by her body) but they're now super-protective of their candidate. I'm not in favor of gender-basing on either side. I just wish the GOP would admit how the shoe feels on the other foot and apologize for how they've treated other female candidates in the past.
I love the video. I think it's a perfect satire of both candidates and makes valid points.
I think we all need to chip in a few pennies and send the McCain campaign a dictionary with the word "sexism" highlighted. Then, perhaps, they can understand what it means and recognize when it actually happens.
While we're at it, let's highlight the words "bullshit" and "hypocracy" as well.
oh yeah i'm so fucking offended. Not. Sarah Palin is fair game and I'm always happy to see people mocking her.
Hahahahaha. They really have no idea what "satire" means, do they? THE IRONY IS KILLING ME.
I just realized I put "view" instead of "few" in my post! Sorry- very tired today!
"The whole "hilary clinton just didn't want it enough" was clearly a shot at what is seen as hilary's blind ambition."
I guess this can be seen as sexist because I never saw anything that showed me Hillary had anything much closer to "blind ambition" than other politicians (including Obama) have demonstrated...
And I think playing on a stereotype of her being ambitious like it's a bad thing, is a sexist stereotype.
But I definitely like the clip overall.
They are also using Clinton’s ambition to show how she was driven; her road was filled with bumps and roadblocks. Palin’s nomination just fell upon her. Clinton had to fight for her position and dealt with sexist bs because she was seen as unfeminine, and now Palin has been chosen to pander to women. Palin was chosen for her femininity and anti-feminist position. She is a pawn of the right wing. I believe the comparison of the two shows that Palin is a token. Especially with the GOP crying sexism whenever someone questions Palin’s credentials. I really like what SNL did with this sketch. Fey and Poehler (sp?) bring the hypocrisy of the GOP to light in regards to sexism.
"they made her look like she has no substance because she holds different views than hillary. and that's why it is sexist!!!!"
Apparently this is the new definition of sexism according to the McCain campaign: "sexism = thinking someone sucks because of their views"
and apparently we are all sexist toward John McCain as well because we think his views are also pretty crappy.
Palin may be full of substance, to bad her head is empty. Tina and Amy are still the best!
Matt Damon's comments were still sexist. (Sorry had too, cause they were.)
Tina Fey nailed Palin and Amy showed a feminist Clinton denouncing those who have embraced feminism only after McCain picked Palin. Clinton was a victim of sexist attacks. Let's hope Obama's "sweeties" will make him see the light.
