Rachel Maddow's Inaugural Show
Anyone watching it? What do you think?
I'm excited by the mix of formats--debate with ol' Uncle Pat, good back and forth with progressive columnist and theologian (a woman and man of color!)--and a little pop culture to end it off.

I didn't catch all of it, but I really liked it! Good fast format, lively debate, and no more than 3 seconds of Britney Spears.
Watched it, love it--I am so happy for her. Great show!
I thought the show was very good. I liked her guests much more than the usual rotation that turns up in the afternoon/early evening shows. She seems more interested in the hard questions that pop into my brain when I read the newspaper, but other opinion hosts tend to shy away from for some odd reason.
Her discussion with TD Jakes was one of those things I'd really been hoping to hear about ever since the Wasilla Assembly of God started getting any attention. As a non-religious person, I'd love to see it become part of an ongoing discussion on faith in America and its role (if any) in politics.
Plus, who can resist Uncle Pat? She absolutely slays him with her charm while he gets all riled up. That in itself is entertainment.
She was great as expected. Hopefully she'll last in this climate where the MSM allows itself to be censored by the right in the name of "balance".
I love Rachel. Besides her high-caliber Ph.D education (and her living Northampton near my ole alma mater Amherst College), and her AirAmerica Talk Show, or her being a powerful-Lesbian, this white female is political and intellectually sharp, and I mean "SHARP"! She can hang, no, she can out-talk/out-think, some of the best pundits (of all political/rhetorical persuasion) in the TV and Radio Media. I first fell in love with her, when she debated (and dialogued) on the MSNBC Tucker Show -- OMG, I hated that fake-azz, intellectually/politically bankrupt, Republican. I have more respect and tolerance for Pat Buchanan, lol. I hope Rachel's show takes off, rating wise, and substance wise. TV is a "business" -- ask Dan Abrahams, and I love all of his shows too. No matter, for however long her show last, I'm a male-fan. She's my Sigorney Weaver, who kicks ass (metaphorically speaking) out of Aliens, while punk-azz-male-marines, like many male TV pundits, delude themself they know-it-all. Go Rachel, go gurlfriend, you rock! Even my religious, conservative, black female, in her 40s, partner loves Rachel -- and trust me, give my radical black male politics, which my girlfriend tolerates (LOL), Rachel must transcend and relate to so many audiences unlike others:)
I was probably the only person in the world who was flipping back and forth between Rachel and One Tree Hill (guilty pleasure!) but I definitely liked what I saw.
Brilliant!!!
Now I have to go watch the commercials three times without fast forwarding, as promised.
I thought it was amazing. I have been loving her more and more lately - such a fiercely intelligent, rational voice in the media spotlight - I'm so happy she has her own show now...! As an aside, Keith Olbermann had her as a guest at the end of "Countdown", leading into her premiere episode, and I loved what she had to say in response to the idea that gayness can be "prayed away":
"I think that being gay may be caused by any number of different things. I can pretty much assure you that not praying enough isn't one of the things that causes the gay. I just- I feel like, nobody's a total authority on the subject, but I don't think that's what does it. When you say that you can pray away the gay, what that does is it terrorizes gay people, and it makes people who hate gay people feel better about hating gay people. Because really all they're doing is hoping for the salvation which could be so easily acheived by just the right amount of prayer."
Love her. Can't wait to see where this show goes (and I especially enjoy the idea of a segment titled, "Talk Me Down"... also, "It's Pat" - brilliant!).
Thanks for the highlights and if anyone has more to share, please do. I missed the show but am hoping to catch snippets online.
I am thrilled about this show! I think it is fantastic that we have, as far as I know, the first openly LGBTQ person hosting a political talk show. I hope that Rachel is allowed to be sufficiently frank, and to do analysis of news the way that she has on her radio show.
I thought the show was really fun last night, although I am 100% biased as I've waited for this night since they announced her show was coming. I even called my mom to make sure she was watching - and she was...and had invited two friends over to watch it with her. Go Rachel for spanning the generational divide!!!
Can I just say that Rachel Maddow is the epitome of Awesomeness.
Honestly, I've always enjoyed her radio show. Whenever I get into a period of not being able to stand MSM 'news', I've never felt the need to turn her off. News, analysis, and humor all from one source.
I did enjoy her show. I'm glad to see some of the feel from her radio show translate into TV with her 'It's Pat!' and 'Talk me Down' segments.
Almost makes me wish I had cable at home.
I love Rachel Maddow!! You can catch the clips from last night's show here: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26315908/
Now no one has to navigate msnbc's site unnecessarily! :)
Sweet, thanks for the link, kaylagrrl!
I watched it, and I'm impressed with Maddow. She's on the ball.
Didn't see the show but did see this is my mailbox this morning courtesy of The Hill:
Fox News Attacks ‘Lesbian Air America Host’ (Brent Budowsky)
@ 9:05 am
Even by the low standards of the Republican News Network, this morning's attack on Rachel Maddow, on the Fox News network, as a "lesbian Air America host" was a despicable new low. Those words, an open appeal to bigotry and hate, said by an alleged media analyst named Tim Graham, were met with laughter and chortles by the Fox News team on air. This is sick and despicable stuff, even for Fox News.

(Hmm, first time poster, don't know if it's already gone through but....)
Didn't get to see the show last night, though I was excited to hear that Maddow's finally given the opportunity she deserves. Unfortunately, I saw this in my mailbox this morning courtesy of The Hill:

Saw it, loved it.
I like the "talk me down" segment. I like that she has had commentators on with diverse views - she was great with Pat. She is a quick debater. I also like that she had Bob Barr on last night. I hope she is getting in a wider audience with those choices.
And can I say hooray for Kent Jones?? Hooray!
