Inspired by watching the women's Olympic marathon the night before, I ran 15 miles on Sunday. It was the furthest I've ever run, and I felt all giddy and slap-happy after I finished. Will register for first marathon shortly.
Also, big feminist thank-yous to Kathrine Switzer and Joan Benoit Samuelson, two of the many awesome athletes who helped pave the road ahead of me.
Jessica, please tell me you are watching Mad Men to remind yourself why feminism is so important and not because you long to get coffee for your boss.
I too watched the women’s marathon over the weekend and thought it was very inspiring. I didn’t run though. I did spend some time with my mom, who’s not feeling well, and washed my car.
HA! Indeed. I actually really like they way the show explores gender roles. Though episode 3 made me a bit sick.
I forced myself to sit through the two hours that was the "Civil Forum" with the presidential hopefuls on Saturday night. It was held at this massive church filled with enough evangelical crazies to give any sane person nightmares.
I was actually very impressed with Obama's candor, thoughtfulness and intelligence in his answers (though he was not exempt from the occasional blatant pandering).
McCain's answers (and the crowd's reaction to them), made me physically ill.
Ahhhhhhhh, vacation. Rugrat home with the in-laws. Bed & Berakfast. Storm King Art Center (highly recommended day trip if you're in the en why cee area). Blissfully uninterrepted sleep.
Want. More.
My weekend was wonderful! I met a new dog, welcomed a new roommate (he's from Ecuador and speaks no English, so I am freshening up my Spanish), and got a job offer with a Democratic political campaign. :D I also picked up Jessica's double standard book and gave it to a woman at a bar.
I went to see the new Traveling Pants movie with my 14 year old sister, and got to explain that if she has a condom break like in the movie, that instead of freaking out she needs to call Planned Parenthood and get emergency contraceptives. Not the best movie, but at least there was a lesson in it for her?
