You got it, Keith: Rush Limbaugh is a HOLE. Making fun of a cancer victim? I'm speechless. Maybe an intelligent woman could have told Rush that his little "joke" was a staggeringly bad idea.

Hahahaha right on for MSNBC!!! I guess some mainstream networks do speak the truth! As for Limbaugh, I seriously don't know why any liberal felt sorry for him when he was going through his med addiction scandal. To hell with him! I knew he would still be an insensitive, disrespectful hypocrite to anyone on the left, despite what he's been through himself. When he made fun of Michael J. Fox for his Parkinson's Disease, I just flipped my lid. This man has no heart!

that was awesome! go keith! awesome!

That clip will never get old. I think it sums up Limbarf's existence quite nicely - do as I shout repeatedly into a golden microphone, not as I do (as illustrated in the pages of the Enquirer).

Elizabeth Edwards is completely brilliant and amazing, and I, for one, hope she never "shuts up."

PS: Rush, if you're gonna deliver a bad joke, at least don't laugh at yourself before you've even finished.

thanks Keith Olbermann. That was satisfying.

Oh my god, that was fantastic. I may have to actually start watching televised news for this guy.

My fiance's response to seeing this video: "I think I like Keith Olbermann."

Me too, me too.

Sometimes I really hate being related to people who actually take Rush Limbaugh seriously.

As much as I liked Keith take on this matter, Keith's sexist comments during the Democratic Primary was equally appalling.

Huzzah for you, Keith! And Rush? What a sad, strange little man.

Kieth Olbermann, Oct. 10, 2006:

"Paris Hilton claims she was punched in the face yesterday morning at a nightclub in Hollywood [pause] 'Course she's had worse things happen to her face ..."

Man, good thing he pointed out to Limbaugh how awful and over the top dick-sucking jokes are. He totally p0wn3d him!

My jaw just hit the floor.

"$38 million dollar salary and the guy can't keep the same woman."

EXCUSE ME! Because a salary is what attracts women?! Because with that much money why wouldn't a woman stay around; after all, they're all gold diggers.

Un-fucking-believable. The pro-woman speech is still implying hurtful stereotypes.

[0+|0-] Author Profile Page Matt said:

Staticbird, I think Olbermann's point was that he's a fuck up even by his own douchebag standards of what women are supposed to be and like.

That's what I thought too, Matt.

I heart Keith.

oh keith olbermann, i think that i might be in love with you.

the combination of this great clip with your stints on the soup! - pure genius.

honestly though, i'm glad to see at least one american talking head making some real sense and actually calling BS.

That's what I thought too, Matt.

Oops! Sorry about that last one. I was backing up and didn't mean to submit again.

I love Keith Olbermann so, so much.

I cannot believe that Rush Limbaugh continues to be on the air with the disgusting comments he makes towards--well, everyone that isn't a rich, white Republican man. Who are his sponsors, does anyone know? I could listen to his show and find out, but then my brain might explode from rage...

I'm with you, Staticbird, especially in light of his previous misogynistic comments. He doesn't get the benefit of the doubt from me after pulling stunts like making pantsuit jokes while covering Sen. Clinton's concession speech. He may be more liberal than most TV commentators, but that doesn't mean he's perfect or that we should make excuses for him when he isn't.

(Apologies if this double-posts. Comment system here hates me.)

Rush Limbaugh is BY FAR the most listened to radio talk show host in the country. It's not his sponsors fault; they're acting rationally. It's his 14 million idiot listeners: http://www.talkers.com/main/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=17&Itemid=34

Feminismforever, there is nothing "rational" about sponsoring hate speech. Sponsors are responsible for where their money goes and the content they choose to support.

[0+|0-] Author Profile Page feminismforever said:

of course, Laurie Anne. I'm certainly not supporting it. But sponsors care about making money. They go where there's money to be made. Again, I blame the idiots who want to listen to him.

My love for Keith Olbermann now knows no bounds. Could we broadcast this in Times Square for a few days? Just so that more people can hear that intelligent women are people you might want to have around instead of being a hindrance.

[0+|0-] Author Profile Page gopher said:

keith is probably doing it simply because of tv demographic reasons. His former coverage of women shows his true colors. 'Nuff with the gaga over Keith. Just because one of these guys tosses a bone doesnt mean I'll treat it like its filet mignon.

I haven't had access to MSNBC for about 6 months, so I haven't been able to watch Keith's allegedly sexist coverage of Hillary's campaign. However, I have witnessed Keith standing up for women in other instances than this one (which I of course, applaud him for). The one I'm reminded of most was in regards to the Vitter scandal with the D.C. madam. Keith was not hosting his show the day Vitter made his public apology with his wife by his side, it was a female reporter, and she and the person she was interviewing (one of Keith's regular commentators) were poking fun at Mrs. Vitter and the fact that she was wearing an animal print dress. I was thoroughly disgusted at the time, but the next day when Keith was back he made an announcement and apology about how inappropriate that particular segment was. It was totally awesome.

To sum up, Keith may have his moments of weakness, but he is by far much more women friendly than most of the pundits in the media.

Keith may not be perfect, but he does good things like this sometimes.

Also, I'd like to point out that even as a feminist, I still succumb to misogynistic behavior. BUT, I'm working on it.

[0+|0-] Author Profile Page Lizard said:

To be honest, I'm amazed to see so many feminists singing Keith Olbermann's praises. I find him to be a pompous, sexist jackass who's far more concerned with APPEARING progressive than with actually BEING progressive---as evidenced by his history of gleefully sexist remarks buttressed by angry self-righteousness when his privilege is challenged. (Here's an example.) Feh.

Is it possible that all is forgiven?
Keith's heart begs me to forget.
Alas, he's played that "Rush" role before,
So, he's not quite off the hook yet.

Repent, Repent, Repent
Dear Keith!
How I long to love you so!
Oh how my knees quivered and quaked
to hear you call Limbaugh a HOLE.

After all of your own femi-missteps
my heart would begin to mend, but then
you'd go and do it twice
And two points on a graph is a TREND.

Keith, Dear Keith
Clean up your act, and not just for ratings one night.
Be good to the women and the girls
---because it would just be RIGHT! : )

I started out as more of a Hillary supporter (by a narrow margin). I now of course support Obama.

But... I thought Keith actually had a valid point in that clip. Maybe he didn't address Elton exactly, but I still thought he had a valid point.

I mean really, how can we know how many people were voting on race vs. how many people were voting on gender? That's a hard thing to poll, and I don't know how much people even tried...

[0+|0-] Author Profile Page Lizard said:

Perhaps at some level. But KO didn't want to have an intelligent conversation about what role sexism might have played; he wanted to call EJ the Worst Person in the World for daring to suggest it. That's a pretty wild overreaction.

[0+|0-] Author Profile Page a.k.a. Ninapendamaishi said:

Lizard:

Well, I guess that's one interpretation, that maybe he just thought it was ridiculous that EJ claimed sexism was involved.

However, I think another interpretation (and the way I was more inclined to interpret it) is that he thought it was ridiculous EJ was suggesting that sexism was /the/ reason Obama was leading Hillary. Which, I think is questionable as well, for the above stated reason. (we don't really know how many people were voting for Obama over Hillary b/c of gender, and how many people were voting for Hillary over Obama b/c of race)

[0+|0-] Author Profile Page Lizard said:

Fair enough---I'm just soured beyond repair on KO after his history of snide sexism. I know we're hurting for liberal allies in the MSM, but he's not one, in my book.

(As a side note, I think one of the liberal pundits who actually said among the most disturbing things about Hillary's campaign is Jon Stewart, because of the violent imagery he chose to use.)

[0+|0-] Author Profile Page Lana said:

I support Keith Olbermann and I think he is a great journalist. As feminists we are suppose to be about choice right? So how why some of you trying to tell us what to watch? I don't think he's sexist or Jon Stewart who is making fun of mainstream media which some of you forget. Don't I have that right as a feminist? We don't all like the same things or have similar beliefs and that should be respected, not judged.

[0+|0-] Author Profile Page Max said:

a.k.a. Ninapendamaishi, I watch The Daily Show pretty religiously and I don't remember hearing anything particularly violent. Can you describe the clip or search for it on thedailyshow.com?

[0+|0-] Author Profile Page gopher said:

Lana,
Claiming that feminism is only about choice is highly simplistic. Its also about examining WHY we make the choices we do. For example, you can have a woman claim its her choice to have genital mutilation, but is it really? She can even claim that its empowering to her, but its not. Many of the choices we as women have in society are based on misogyny and did not arise from a autonomous origination. Many of the options we have to choose between wouldnt even exist in a non-misogynistic world. Can you imagine women creating and choosing to wear burqas in a world only populated by women. We'd never invent that, nor the patriarchal religion its based on.

This isnt about what we can, and cant watch. Were sorting the anchors intentions, whether or not he gets it, or is simply doing it for public reasons. You can have an anchor put on a politically enlightened face one second, and when the ratings by go back up, they bring back the same old racist, or sexist behaviors that were seen previously. Its even more telling to be suspicious because MSNBC features Chris Matthews, (a huge prick) and other anchors who have sexist attitudes. We also dont know where this came from because the anchor has had a previous sexist record of coverage of women. This furthers the case for skepticism.

I just found out what Rush Limbaugh does with his mouth; it's called "Diarrhea of the Mouth"

In fact, I propose we officially call him by this name from now on.

On keith Olberman,... he messed up HUGELY when he attacked Katie Couric. But we should encourage his paying attention to gender issues rather than shun him forever.

--------

I don't think feminism is only about choice. It's also about educating ourselves and others on the choices we make. But it's also NEVER about shaming and shunning people.
