Ugh. I saw a cute top on the metro today and thought it looked like American Apparel. Then I thought, "Well, I guess I won't be buying it, then."

You can buy that shit at Trader Joe's or Whole Foods or practically anywhere else for, like, 5 bucks. Jeez.

I like that soap (it's chemical free), but it's definitely not American Apparel's invention. Between that store and Vice Magazine, there's quite the trend in relying heavily on the subordination of women to perpetuate supposedly progressive ideas. And a whole cohort of young people, i.e. hipsters is just captivated by it.

I have been using this soap for years and I get it much cheaper at a local health food store than AA sells it for.

I'm with TheSoyMilkCOnspiracy on this. Bronner's magic liquid soap is actually a great product. But you can get it at your local market for $4-5. No need to order it from AA.

I actually own that soap. Been using it for some time and didn't need a stupid video to show me how. I don't get who they are trying to appeal to.

I love Dr. Bronner's soap. I use it for everything. This video is so stupid! I can't even find an intelligent way to break down just how stupid it is.

i don't know. this video is ridiculous and sexual harassament is completely unacceptable but i just can't bring myself to hate american apparel all that deeply. i can't afford to buy handmade clothes from local designers or break the bank on other brands of organic humane clothing. american apparel let's me dress the way that i like, put my own spin on things, and without feeling sick about what's happening to the children in the sweatshop that produced it. when i buy american apparel i know where my clothes are coming from and how they are made and i feel a lot better buying them than i do at other chain stores. and honestly i really don't mind their ads. yeah they're on the raunchy side but they don't appear to be airbrushed and those girls look more "real" than anything i see in major ads anywhere. hands down. Mr. Charney has done some unnacceptable things and i'm totally willing to call him out on that, but i don't think it'll stop me from buying american apparel. but to each her own.

oh, and i though the blip at the end of this post from jessica was unnecessary. it kind of threw me off. i really don't want to get into a rant on my feelings about hygiene right now though.

All I can say is UGH. I am constantly conflicted on whether or not to buy from AA. I hate their ads (although it is a good point that they do look like real girls and don't appear to be airbrushed) but the fit of their tees are just too good. It's hard for me to find good tees ANYWHERE! Is there any perfect company out there that makes their clothes in the US, without the use of sweatshops, doesn't rely on exploiting women's bodies, AND actually has a good fit?! ARG.

To the people who are conflicted about patronizing American Apparel because they like the clothes but don't want to give the company money, might I suggest shoplifting. I believe they have a corporate policy against interfering with shoplifters.

I'm sorry, real girls? I have yet to see a girl over 100 pounds and looking like she wasn't date-rate-drugged in any of their photographs. I'm not saying we should all go out and patronize walmart, but isn't there an alternative to the company that has made their name by imitating child porn?

ok.. 1) This _32oz_ bottle of _organic_ soap can be found elsewhere for _$5_?? puh-lease, my 30oz bottle of JASON is like $12

2) I also like AA clothing (i like what clementine said), not their ads, i would definitely rather they have a man version of the ad or just nothing at all. I can understand how the video came about.. they have instructional videos for some of their clothing, someone probably thought it would be cute (barf) to do this.

3) Shoplifting? really? the store i go to has a sign next to the fitting rooms that says "shoplifters will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law." And anyone who works/worked retail knows that associates cant interfere (like jump a thieving customer), you can only make the shoplifter feel uncomfortable by greeting them talking to them, trying to assist them.

I wonder if Dr. Bronner's actually knows about and okayed this video? While this is totally par for the course for AA, this doesn't seem like something Dr. Bronner's would sign off on...?

Dr. Bronner actually does his own instructional video about how to use his soap. He is stripped to the waist and actually washing himself, not just his shoulder. He also has a really friggin' cool accent. If AA needed an instructional video, why turn to the naked chick in the shower instead of the expert?
