I thought you said some interesting things. You made the point that people like the blog because it is self-referential and a kind of exercise in navel-gazing for white people, which it certainly is.
But I thought your conclusions about the blog's racial undertones/overtones were facile. I guess I don't think you're giving the blog's readers enough credit. We don't just laugh, uncomfortably or not, at the website because we recognize ourselves or feel superior because we don't. And I'm not sure where you get the idea that the blog doesn't spur any kind of analysis of race on the part of its readers. I think the website has three functions: to acknowledge dominant white culture, to poke fun at it, and to challenge it. The first and the third are why Lander is getting the book deal and why the blog has touched such a nerve -- you can get jokes about race anywhere, but satire about race and culture and our entire society's discomfort with talking about it is worth a book deal.
