McCain's awkward silence on birth control coverage

So does he not know that he voted against requiring insurance companies to cover birth control for women? Or does he just not want to talk about it?

Think Progress has more.

Do you think he'll vote for a bill requiring coverage for memory loss medication?

Can he do that? can he just decide not to talk about something this important to so much of the population and still expect them to vote for him for president?

And how can he just claim that he doesn't know enough to comment? he apparently thought he knew enough to vote on the matter. I guess he considers the public policy that his votes influence to be much less important than the presidential campaign that his comments to the press influence. of course.

At least Obama attempts to rationalize and defend his idiotic votes...

Did anyone else notice the title that NBC used for this? "News You Can't Use: McCain Keeps Stiff Upper Lip During Viagra Question"...

Really? 'Cause I'm pretty sure half of the population (plus all the men who benefit and/or pay for birth control...which is nearly every man I know) could use this news in, say, the next election.

These awkward silences seem rather par for the course for McCain, as if he knows what answer his Republican base would like to hear yet himself recognizes the inherent bull-shittery of it all.

I don't like McCain (and I certainly don't like the way he's been pandering to the far right), but I get the feeling that his personal beliefs are somewhat different from those he fronts to the media.

Then again, his voting record says otherwise...

"News You Can't Use: McCain Keeps Stiff Upper Lip During Viagra Question"...

That's telling. Not "Birth control question" but "Viagra question".

I don't have a clue what McCain's personal beliefs might be, but I think he knows that being anti-birth-control is a huge loser among the populace in general, but is what the right-wing base he needs to court expects.

For whatever reason, his awkward silence makes me laugh out loud.

MLEmac, that's that "Straight Talk" they like to tell us about!

Lol...is he awkward because he needs Viagra?

Jen R: But if they said "birth control," they couldn't use that terribly witty pun about a "'stiff' upper lip"! *end sarcasm*

How can he say he doesn't know enough about the issue? He knew enough to vote on it way back when. Did he forget just now when someone put him on the spot for it?
