Quick Hit: Sexual harassment attorney sued for sexual harassment

Huh?

The head of a New York law firm which prides itself as "dedicated to the empowerment of women in the workplace" is being sued for sexual harassment. You just have to love the first line in this article:

A top New York attorney known for representing women in sexual harassment cases is a chauvinist with genital piercings, a lawsuit alleges.

Not just a chauvinist, but with genital piercings. For shame! (Sarcasm included)

I have to admit, becoming a sexual harassment attorney to (allegedly) give oneself oppourtunities to sexually harass reads like one of Baldrick from Blackadder's ill-conceived plans.

The line about the genital piercings is really stupid; um, can we stick to important facts, please?

I am not sure about this particular case, but my own experiences back up the idea that sometimes those who appear "least likely" to be sexist jerks can be just that. Specifically, there is a professor at my college who teaches Criminology who is widely known for being inappropriate with students and has been accused of sexual harassment in the past. My Women and the Law professor also made inappropriate and derogatory comments about women. It made me really disappointed to realize that these are the people who are LITERALLY supposed to be going to bat for us, but they still don't.

while the whole "genital piercings" thing was incredibly stupid, this guy could still be a total hypocrite and doing exactly what he's fighting against.

Yeah, this happens. Kind of the whole "I'm a liberal guy so my inappropriate comments are cute and ironic" thing.

my genital piercings are the source of my misogyny.

in fact as the needle slid into my penis, i instinctively slapped the lady that came with me for moral support.

I wish the news story had focused less on the genital piercings and bdsm and more on the actual charges.

Most of the things mentioned in the article were inappropriate at best. I can see how these incidents would add up to environment of harassment.

The guy is a sexual harassment lawyer and should know better, which leads me to believe that he just doesn't care.

A lawyer without scruples? Alert the media! Call Rick Romero!

More and more I seem to see a favorable career option in the nunhood.

VT, i didn't see anywhere in the article that mentioned bdsm at all

Making sexual banter part of the workplace environment is just unprofessional; and it is almost inevitable that creating this environment will be disruptive and hostile to some people. Hey, I'm a BDSMer too, but I don't come into work giving my co-workers reports from my weekend scenes, or put pictures of me playing on my desktop. That's inappropriate.

I'm not saying that the political aspects of BDSMers' self-identification are unprofessional; if the guy had a leather pride flag as his wallpaper, fine by me and I see that as no more sexualized than a pink triangle or rainbow flag. But that's not the allegation. The allegation is a highly sexualized work environment. That's not okay.

Hahahahahahaha. With genital piercings. The media never cease to amaze me.

LlesbianLlama - "LITERALLY supposed to be going to bat for us".. umm hate to nit-pick, but actually the only situation in which they LITERALLY should be batting for us, is when we form a feminist baseball team and they're next up. Or cricket, if you want.. heck even softball!

Re: the article.. I've posted before about my "progressive anarchist" ex-boyfriend who turned out to think that if a woman teased a guy then she owed it to him to have sex with him.. so yeah, often not the type of person you think would be supportive turns out to be a douche, simply put.

Pannadol, I think we've dated the same guy.

CoasttoCoast -
The first line of the article mentions that Tuckner wore a domination collar to work. And then further into the article is this paragraph

"The suit said Tuckner told Brockington he was a piercing enthusiast who was "extremely into spanking" and kept a screen saver on his computer that shows him kneeling at the feet of his girlfriend, who was dressed in a black dominatrix outfit."

To me the article was trying to say that you just can't trust those kinky bdsm people.

This is not to take away from the point that the guy really was causing a hostile work environment. As pointed out by others, his actions were just inappropriate for a work place.

Only if you get your jollies from beating little kids.

The sad fact is that most women who suffer from sexual harassment, are the ones that never report the offense. In my years as a human resource professional, I have witnessed this time and time again. Just as sad, is that a number of reported sexual harassment incidents are actually women trying to get back at a male boss that they do not like. I detail these situations and offer solutions in my book, Wingtips with Spurs: Lessons From the Ranch. In fact, I devote an entire chapter to these issues. Michael L.
