Hey folks, we're in the process of upgrading our blog software as part of our redesign efforts, so we're going through some changes with comments. Most comments will be held for moderation - this isn't because we don't love you, it's because we're trying to cut down on trolls and trying out some new stuff on the back end. We'll free up your comments as quickly as we can, and once we launch the newly designed and community-oriented Feministing (we'll announce the launch date on Tuesday, along with a sneak peak of the new site!) commenting will be back to normal.
Thanks for all of your patience and support...

Are you going to scoop?
If so I imagine the new site will be awesome and I look forward to seeing it. So congratulations on that.
Are you still having trouble because you took on the trolls on Friday? That's the thing, pointing out how pathetic they are is like shooting fish in a barrel. But you will never be able to spend as much time cleaning your site as they'll spend trying to deface it, especially on a Friday or Saturday night.
does that mean new design?
Moderation is definitely the best way to deal with them. These are people who get off on the fact that the internet allows them to say things they'd never have the guts to in real life as well as giving them an audience of people who will think they're actually funny. Pointing out how pathetic they are is like shooting fish in a barrel but ultimately it's pointless. If they were going to feel some pangs of conscience or self-doubt over what they're doing, they wouldn't be doing it in the first place. Far better to just deny them their "lulz" in the first place, so they'll have to find some other part of the internet to stink up.
I'm really excited about this. And I second what idratherbedrunk said about trolls. They troll because they don't have lives. But luckily they change their target pretty frequently, so they should move on soon if they haven't already.
Good. Trolls have been a constant problem here since long before last Friday.
I'm sure Kotaku's insipid article (anti-feministing) about Samhita's post on GTAIV didn't help, either.
I'm a gamer and a feminist; I wish that more than 1% of people didn't consider those things mutually exclusive or, god, antagonistic of one another.
*sigh*
"Far better to just deny them their 'lulz' in the first place, so they'll have to find some other part of the internet to stink up."
Right on! After all, respecting someone else's right to free speech doesn't have to include publishing their speech for them and fearing that they'll call it censorship if you don't...
