Does this remind anyone else of the Paris Hilton burger ad? Ugh.

Bleh... and by the way, there is NO way she could've stayed on that mechanical bull without holding on ... let alone while eating a hamburger! This is obnoxious. At least its not those "hungry man" commercials where the dude is eating a smoothie and its like WHAT ARE YOU A WOMAN? YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT! EAT HUNGRY MAN!
But still dumb.

real dumb.

How can they possibly try to frame eating a hamburger on a mechanical bull as a "healthy" behavior? It's clearly a choking hazard. :P

Please tell me that ad is not seriously running anywhere. That's worse than those disgusting Herbal Essence ads where the woman has an orgasm in public.

But Lucy, what's a little choking hazard when you can gyrate, "exercise," and seductively eat meat and cheese at the same time? All with the wind blowing through your hair! Totally reasonable risk to be attractive to teh men.
(need I say this is snark?)

Give me an effin' break. Please... I can't tell which one is the piece of meat.

I also love the person who commented on YouTube "Best commecial ever..."

This makes me want to cry.

how can she can do all that gyrating with an over-stuffed food product in her hand and not get ketchup all over her shirt? ;)

And then there's the Kylie Minogue mechanical bull themed ad... this one aired in movie theatres, hence the challenge to the men in the audience at the end.

And they think they're being so clever. They're just ripping off AC/DC.

Yeah, this is an old ad. I haven't seen it in a long time, but it used to be run fairly frequently when it was on the air. It made my dad and I both super uncomfortable when we were watching TV together and it came on.

I don't think you could pay me to set food in a Carl's Jr/Hardee's. Their ads are disgusting in general.

Also, isn't it fantastic how this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OuNCMYKViN4 encourages you to eat greasy junkfood while reminding you that you're supposed to be model skinny at the same time? Disgusting.

Shouldn't we be rethinking hamburgers anyway? The connection between animals and women as objects of male consumption is nothing new. The idea that hierarchies are essential, that sometimes violence and domination are okay if the object "doesn't matter," is a critical tool for patriarchy's perpetuating itself. This rationale has been used against women, people of color, queers, and too many others. Without trivializing the experiences of humans, I think it's crucial that we examine the role meat eating and industry plays in the normativity of dominance/subordination in our society. Otherwise, sick shit like this keeps popping up. And we all know what that means. Bummer.

and we're supposed to believe she actually eats those burgers? (note that she only took one bite!) they're using women's bodies to distract people from the fact that their advertising team (and probably that burger) sucks. i'll stick with my own organic, free-range, grassfed hamburgers on a whole wheat bun, thank you very much!

same company -

Hardee's has an ad out with a bunch of guys sitting around a TV acting like "guys". Their male friend comes over and offers them fresh biscuits, they give him a WTF look.

"Men Don't Bake" is the tag line.

Who are these ads aimed at? George Costanza?

this is bullshit

I'm not sure which one is more disgusting...this one or the terrible Burger King "We are Men" ad campaign a year ago.

Similarly, I have been successful in my Taco Bell boycott since the post on Feministing about the new "You be the photographer" campaign. Which is doubly counterproductive for the Bell because I had been avoiding Taco Bueno for several years (because I'm not a fan of their food)...but now I've been there twice in two weeks.

I just saw the "Men Don't Bake" commercial last night and was immediately disgusted. It's impressive how Hardee's can objectify women, support a gendered society, and do all kinds of other offensive things. Way to go, Hardee's.

I have to appreciate this ad in a perverse way, if for no other reason the apparent acknowledgment that advertising need make no sense whatever. You could put this in a museum and call it social commentary. At some point doesn't it become so absurd it's not even worth getting offended about?

I live in L.A. and these ads still run like crazy out here (saw one just last night). I roll my eyes every time but I must say, since being a regular Feministing reader for going on two years now I can identify a lot more of the sexism that I used to either 1) not catch or 2) just ignore subconsciously. Not anymore:) Though it makes watching commercials difficult so thank Gawd I gotsa DVR. FF all the way!

I don't necessarily have a problem with gyrating in isolation...
But I do feel kind of motion-sick.

I like to play a game where I mute the television and see which of my family/friends can correctly guess the product before it is shown on the screen. This one definitely gave me the urge to go out and buy: 1) a woman, 2) a mechanical bull, 3) a burger. In that order. I definitely lost this round of "guess the product".

Wow. This makes me hate the ad industry even more, and makes me so glad that I just don't have a TV any more!! So much pointless/offensive sensory bombardment is stopped by that simple change in my life. I just laugh now when people look at me funny in that "you don't know what you're missing" way. Oh, I do know what I'm missing, and I'm glad it's not in my life... like this ad.

The only thing more disgusting than their commercials is their crap food. Personally, though, I'm more disgusted by the slew of commercials we've had lately where the voice over guy sounds like he's about to come in his pants over a shitty mass-produced sandwich.

I hate this commercial and am so sick of it I have to stop myself from throwing things at the TV when this comes on. It is an old commercial that they seem to have changed the ending to. The one I see says at the end, "No one does western like Carl's Jr."

i wonder if they actually realize the harm they're causing millions of women by airing this bullshit. im guessing they do know, and they just dont care.
this commercial just makes me feel really hopeless.

Completely ignoring the mechanical bull, just how often do you think that model eats a 1130 calorie burger?

Carl's Jr is also a big supporter of anti-choice organizations, so what would you expect?

I'm calling your bluff. Against overwhelming evidence against meat eating, the health issues, the industry's treatment of their consumers, the treatment of their animals, their treatment of thier workers, and the clear mysogyny in their advertising, I herby vote you will continue eating the shit. Period.

So how long would one have to stay on the mechanical bull to burn off all the calories in that bronto-burger? Though I suppose it wouldn't be too long before the bucking motion caused vomiting--mechanically assisted bulemia!

I can't stop laughing. Really. Yes, it's horribly offensive & stupid & everything that needs to be railed against, but its so jaw-droppingly base, exudes such a desperation to activate the arousal switchboard in it's target audience that its like watching de-evolution happening right before my eyes. It gives off such a sledgehammer sensibility that it makes Ken Russell look like Igmar-freaking-Bergman. Hysterical. & certainly NOT for any such intention on Carl Jr. 's part.

It's very upsetting how this isn't the only disturbing commercial I see on a daily basis.
There are many more commercials that use females to sell a product or those other commercials that make females the "weaker" sex.
Have you seen Sonic's commercial? or the Hungry Man commercial?
So how exactly do you "man" it up? Or eat like a "girl"?
Where the hell do they come up with kind of nonsense?!
It makes me sick!

grr. I have hated their commercials for years!
