UK government official: “Rape is Like Being Force-Fed Chocolate Cake

chocolate-cake.jpg
NOT at all like rape.

From Londonist, we find out that an official from the BNP, Nick Eriksen, was removed as the party's London Assembly candidate because of an oh-so-charming blog post he wrote on rape (it's since been removed):

"Rape is simply sex (I am talking about 'husband-rape' here)... Women enjoy sex, so rape cannot be such a terrible physical ordeal…To suggest that rape, when conducted without violence, is a serious crime is like suggesting force-feeding a woman chocolate cake is a heinous offence.

Baffling. You have to love the logic of a dude who thinks that violating a woman's body is akin to a delicious desert. And of course, Eriksen's misogyny doesn't end with thinking rape is fabulous - he's also been quoted as saying women who work are “unnatural and vile. Fucking someone without their consent, however, is all good. What an asshole.

I mentioned this a while ago when the news broke. But really - force feeding is an horrific form of torture and a violation of another person's body.

So he's got that right.

“On 24 August 2005, Mr Eriksen wrote: ‘I’ve never understood why so many men have allowed themselves to be brainwashed by the feminazi myth machine into believing that rape is such a serious crime … Rape is simply sex. Women enjoy sex, so rape cannot be such a terrible physical ordeal.’

Yeah, I think this proves the internet asshole theory quite nicely.

Force-feeding someone is horrible, violent, and an invasion. So, you know, well done.

The ironic thing is that "force-feeding a woman chocolate cake" IS a heinous offense.

Have you ever tried to force feed someone? I have. And it's not fun. (parents, sick kids, medicine....) It is viewed by the recipient as torture. It IS pretty much something that would get classified as abuse or torture if it weren't the medicinal/parental aspect.

And it's still IMO not as bad as rape.

How is force feeding someone NOT disgusting, for one thing? Someone has clearly never seen Se7en.
How do you even being to reason with someone who is deluded into thinking their cock is so wonderful it's like chocolate cake to whomever is lucky enough to have it stuck inside them?

Is there anything that isn't heinous about the BNP?

Good points on the force feeding, all. I'm just disgusted all around.

I like chocolate cake
I like sex

However, if someone were to force cake in my mouth and down my throat and not allowing me to chew and swallow and breath, then I'd feel pretty violated.

Fuck this guy. I have a sticker on my wall that says "if we don't protect freedom of speech, how will we know who the assholes are?"

Now we know.

The F Word blog posted on this and linked to this description/analogy, which is kinda horrible but effective - http://finallyfeminism101.wordpress.com/2008/03/18/faq-of-women-like-sex-just-as-much-as-men-do-then-why-is-rape-so-bad-its-just-rougher-sex-right/

Oh. My. God.

I think my brain may just have exploded.

Rape is simply sex.

*BZZZ*

Wrong! Thanks for playing.

And husband-rape isn't violent? I worked near the ER, and the worst cases of rape they had were by husbands. In one instance, he had beat her into a pulp, then rammed his fists into her vagina and rectum. She required hours of surgery.

Maybe if the chocolate cake was laced with gasoline, it would be an apt analogy. As it stands, his entire argument is based upon a false statement, so anything following from that statement is utter bull.

These guys just can't be bothered to put themselves in someone else's shoes, can they? "*I* like sex, therefore women must enjoy rape." One thing does not logically follow from the other.

Um, well, it *is* the BNP after all. They are a racist, fascist party. Spikenard has it right, being horrible and disgusting is the BNP's raison d'etre. This comment is consistent with that purpose.

[0+|0-] Author Profile Page firecracking said:

This is a spectacularly disgusting set of remarks, and I really don't want to think about how many people have even the slightest bit of sneaking sympathy for him.

I do think the title is slightly unfair, though - Nick Eriksen isn't a UK government official. He was second on a (thankfully) small fascist party's list of candidates for a regional government election, and now isn't. I have no great love for the current British government, but, you know, we didn't elect this guy.

Extra fuel for rage, as if it were needed: when I was doing a brief Google to check my facts, just in case we *had* elected him, I came across the following comment on the Daily Mail story about this incident: "I am female and met Mr Eriksen several times when I was a Tory party activist. I can vouch for the fact that he is a perfect gentleman. Can his critics not admit that one can write provocatively just to stimulate debate? Well, he certainly has and it is a long-overdue debate which has been stifled by political correctness. The fact that over 90% of men accused of rape are INNOCENT is SHOCKING to an average non-man-hating modern woman like me. The fact is, more women should face prosecution for making false allegations so Mr Eriksen is making a valid point."

I mean, I don't expect much from anybody who leaves comments on the Daily Mail website, but... that was something else. Both deeply gross sentiments, and sad that this woman appears to genuinely believe 90% of women who report rape are lying. Usually (I hope... though I may be wrong) people aren't that willing to say out loud that they think the shockingly low conviction rate is actually a measure of what proportion of rape allegations are lies.

And, obviously, all the points made about force feeding are quite right.

[0+|0-] Author Profile Page angelicdemon said:

That's bullshit.

When I was raped, it was with a partner of mine. The rape was not really all that violent, thank God, but it was violating because I did not want to have sex.

Then no one believed me that it even happened because he was seeing me at the time.

Rape is not about sex: it is about POWER.

Yeah, I thought the guy was a Tory at first, and was about to get pretty pissed off. But the BNP? It's ike getting mad at the KKK for being racist.

I definitely agree with all the comments so far, and while it's hardly surprising that someone from the BNP would say this, I think it's interesting...

Interesting how a simple emphasis on words can allow people to say such things in our society and have it even halfway make sense to the common person on the street.

All rape is sexualized power and violence, not forceful, rough sex.

It's our society's continued view of rape as primarily sex that gets rape victims ignored.

I have a feeling that a lot more people that this BNP official feel that.

[0+|0-] Author Profile Page lotus said:

This is SO sad. A few others had said it before me, that force-feeding is a very effective form of torture.

I love how the system effectively devalues sexual violence against women but never fails to cringe at the mention of rape of a man. Great.

Let's just not get into a debate over "enthusiastic consent" for chocolate cake. And there's no such thing as gray chocolate cake.

tbf as soon as i saw 'BNP' I just sort of switched off. Yes, what he's saying is idiotic, but its the BNP. When have they ever done/said anything NOT contentious?!

ooh and Pup on a random tangent of thought....
grey cake - white sponge, black food colouring, white chocolate

should really put away my cookbooks.....

I'm really sick of this attitude among some men that they are God's gift to women and that we are obligated to have sex with them.

Newflash, guys: while you probably will be able to find a woman who likes you for you, unless you look like a movie star, most women do not find you attractive. We are also under no obligation to have sex with you. Having sex with people we're not attracted to is at least as uncomfortable for us as it is for you, if not more so. Stop putting your wants and desires on us and treat us like people.

Thank you very much.

Come on, guys! His blog says that everyone is just trying to make him look bad by taking quotes out of context! He said it was supposed to be tongue-in-cheek, and it wasn't supposed to be taken literally! He meant, figuratively force-feeding someone cake was like rape...not LITERALLY.

Gross. Gross. Gross.

sorry for double posting - my computer claimed it had crashed

Jessica/editors/people: the subject line is wrong. He isn't a UK government official. He's the candidate of a widely-hated, racist, far-right party, for a seat he's not very likely to win, to a body with almost no power on which his party has no places at present.

(He also apparently said that "women are like gongs; they need to be struck regularly". Charming.)

[0+|0-] Author Profile Page noname said:

I see the argument he is setting up. If you like sex, then it should not be such a big deal to be forced into it. Of course, this argument is ludicrous (amongst many reasons) in that it totally disregards the experiences of rape victims, for whom yes, it is a BIG FUCKING DEAL.

It shocks and saddens me that a presumably well-educated man could belie such ignorance of female sexual response. He might try some unlubed anal play and then rework that analogy for us.

As a few have already pointed out the BNP (British National Party) are basically Nazis. We have better things to get upset about.

Do we report it every time David Duke opens his mouth:
(From his website in response to the much disputed Vogue cover with Gisele Bündchen and Lebron James)

"...Long-time White hater, Annie Liebowitz... directed James & Bundchen’s poses as an “in your face affront to White males and a clear lesson for White women (who are not lesbians as she is) to let themselves be taken by Black men"

No, I think we ignore him because like Nick Eriksen and everyone else invloved with the KKK and BNP he's C-R-A-Z-Y!

Sorry for posting twice! Stupid computers...

The fact that he belongs to a racist, sexist, and unpopular party does not mean that we should be taking this any less seriously. If, in a world with roughly 6 billion people in it, everyone but this man and three of his friends was pro-woman, I personally would still be outraged.

Does this guy know anything about the FLDS compound in El Dorodo, TX that was raided last week? Those 14/15/16 year-old girls were forced to marry men more than three times their age for chrissake! You can't tell me that those old men raping their child brides was the equivalent of force-feeding them chocolate cake for chrissake. I cannot POSSIBLY imagine that those young women were willingly having sex with those perverts.

[0+|0-] Author Profile Page leah said:

This sort of crap is precisely why we need to change the dialog about rape so that it is not seen as on the same continuum as sex, but so that it is seen as on the same continuum as assault. He is by far not the only person who thinks this way...

[0+|0-] Author Profile Page dee said:

speaking of assholes....

after his is raped maybe he can come back and tell us how enjoyable it was

(Note that I wasn't saying that his comments were any less appalling because he comes from the BNP; I was merely saying that the headline claimed that an official from the government was making this claim, which would not only have been all the kinds of wrong that this already is, but also have been an abuse of the power entrusted to that official. This fuckwit has nothing to do with the government, and [please all the gods] never will do.)

I suppose it would be wrong to suggest that he be force fed chocolate cake via an alternate orifice?

Yes? But it's cake! Cake is good! Why would he care how it gets into his body, or under what circumstances?

[0+|0-] Author Profile Page fatale feminst said:

i've felt upset during sex with a loving boyfriend just because i wasn't really in the mood for it.. thats ridiculous! chocolate cake would NOT make me cry!

Wow, this is completely screwed up. So first of all, rape isn't just sex, and second of all being force-fed actually is a terrible thing.

But really, once you go this far what's next? Triple murder is like being forced to have an extra helping of steak? Kidnapping is like taking a road trip with your best friend? Lord, the possibilities are endless and horrible at the same time.

I mean, what the hell? I have plenty of stuff I like that I wouldn't like forced on me. I like TV, but I wouldn't want someone to shove toothpicks under my eyelids and force me to watch TV. I like chocolate cake, but wouldn't want it force-fed to me. I like jogging, but I wouldn't like to be forced to run for my life.

This guy's a jackass, and with statements like that the only consolation I can see is that no woman will ever want to be near him.

That is beyond disgusting. And he's saying it because he knows there's no chance of it ever happening to him. Though I shouldn't be, I'm always amazed at just how much some (SOME) men hate women.

This BNP is not a "UK government official" thank you.

This BNP prat is not a "UK government official" thank you.

Doesn't make that comment any less wrong, offensive or grotesque, but I think it's an important point.

Actually Lotus, there are a lot of times when rape in general is made light of. We sure use it as a form of torture in our prisons, and no one seems to care.
(see great post http://www.huffingtonpost.com/mike-farrell/ending-the-hidden-savage_b_91867.html)

Whereever there's someone thinks it's okay to treat "those people" -women, minorities, LGBT, prisoners.... whatever - badly because "they" deserve it, that dickwad is going to be capable of this kind of assholery.

& MLEmac, LURVE the sticker!
