Come say howdy to me in Texas!

Apologies for the "howdy," I couldn't help myself.

I'll be speaking at Dallas' Southern Methodist University tonight:

7pm, Ballroom West, Hughes Trigg Student Center

Afterwards, I imagine I'll need a drink.

when are you coming down to houston, jess? :(
and yes, you're gonna need a very, very stiff one after talking at SMU. good luck with THAT.

Come to Austin! We'll be more than hospitable here at UT!

Ooo...tempting. I try to avoid SMU if at all possible, but I might show up for that. Good luck either way!

I agree with radhika; we'll be very welcoming in Houston! :)

Good luck with SMU, though... :-/

Okay, let's be nice now. We promise to be very good to Jess here in Dallas. We're rallying all of the fabulous feminists in town to come. You'd be surprised how many of us there are - even on the SMU campus, which is really quite lovely in lots of ways!

Best,

Hey, you were pleasantly surprised at Georgetown. Jenny sounds like she's rallying a similar crew. :)

It's so sad to always see that you are speaking so far away from Oregon! We should find a way to get you to come out to Oregon State.... :)

I agree - come to Austin! I'm sure Dallas' feminists will not let you down, but be prepared for a couple of asshat gate crashers.

oh, i'm really just joshing. i'm excited to leave this morning and i've heard from other feminists who've spoken at smu that the students are fab.

don't know when i'll be in houston, but i'll be in austin this summer for netroots nation conference!

Be sure to tease up your hair to unimaginable heights (the late Molly Ivins may have some advice in that vein; just search for her article about Dallas) in order to properly fit in. The talk should go fine so long as the "No Frat-Daddies*" sign is adhered to.

* trust me, this is very applicable at SMU... and most other universities.

JOY! Dallas needs more Feministing. :)

I'm sooooo excited about seeing you tonight! I'll be wearing a shirt. :D

Weird, I'm usually such a lucky person. But you're speaking the day after I traveled to Iowa for a little trip.

Glad to see there are more Dallas Feministingers.

holy shit, i'm so going to be there!

I'm the president of the feminist organization on SMU's campus (the Women's Interest Network) and I'm thrilled about today. I'm also the dork who screamed "Jessica Valenti!" when asked by a student advisor if I could see anyone speak about women's issues on campus, who would I choose? Less than a week later, I was told that you were coming. Texas isn't that bad and anyways, you are sorely needed in places that are less than progressive 24/7. And I also want to hop on the drinks afterwards train. Can't wait!

Dang it! I missed it!

i am totally coming with a car full of people. that like to drink.

for like the first time ever i'm envious of dallas.

when are you going to come to CA, jessica?

I wish you had posted this earlier! There's no way I can make it to Dallas this late in traffic.... Please post in advance next time so I can plan to head out wherever you are!

Ditto on the advance notice! I would have made the appropriate arrangements, but couldn't have made it across town in time had I tried. Enjoy your time in Dallas.

NOOO!!!!!

I missed you by an hour and a half (I don't check my blogs until evening)and I don't even know where SMU at Dallas is, even though I live in a suburb in Dallas county.
I had always hoped you'd come to Dallas.
Fuck, I can't believe I missed you.
Will you be back any time soon?
And I'm with the Chris and firefoxx66, if I had known about a day earlier, I SO would've been there!

Hi Jessica! Although my house mate and I were only briefly in your company, you were a blast at the dinner table and much too generous to share from your plate. You rocked Dallas! Hope to see you again very soon.

It was so nice to finally meet you in person, Jess. And it was a blast to get to hear you speak, as well as read from your book. Hope your time in Dallas turned out to be a pleasant surprise (lol) and that you have a safe trip home!

I would have been there if I had known! You should post these things earlier!

You were so great, Jessica!

I'm a grad student in anthropology at SMU, and the dogmatic conservativism at this institution (esp with undergrads) can be disheartening. I was so glad to see some really bright young women come out to see the talk, too.

(P.S. I brought someone to the talk who I'm trying to get to understand feminism. I really think you helped the cause! He was really happy that you were funny, and was surprised that you didn't say anything mean about men, lol.)

oh, and important to know: there is much, much cooler stuff in Texas than what I'm guessing you saw of it ;)
